Ohhhh, boy...
I can hear the ominous background music now. This should be good -- very good. Can't wait for more... Having said that, I found Bruce's behaviour at the briefing unusual. It's not like him, to my mind, to be so obstructive to someone trying to present a serious topic; otherwise, every JLA meeting would descend into chaos -- or moreso than they do now... Is he trying to loosen up a bit when at home, so to speak, and thus, with his usual people skills, messing up big time? Because Dick would be quite justified in feeling seriously annoyed about being treated that way, I should think, and that's not going to help anyone when they move into Bludhaven. Or is he trying to goad Dick into doing even better than he is now, so that there's a better chance of success? That sounds like typical Bat-strategy -- everything is secondary to the mission, even a valued and newly reconstructed relationship with his son; that way, Dick and Selina will still be there to get mad at him. Oh, and a minor query: ff.net lists this as tale #24 -- isn't it 23, or has a kitten escaped my notice? ----

You're quite right, Orion, that something IS going
on with Bruce's behavior at the meeting. Chapter 2 will
reveal more.
And you're also right that it's Episode 23, not 24. I messed up. A thousand apologies. |

Well, if its written by you and Steve from an idea
by Hugh... well, its almost guaranteed to be amazing. You
two are both great writers and Hugh himself is such an
amazing fount of ideas. Ive been doing a scene for him in
game and some of the stuff he comes up with is
inspired.
Look forward to reading it. Im still on CatTales 10 or something - not because Im not enjoying them - quite the opposite - as a result Im taking my time over them. Look fwd to reading! Rob |

Here's what I'm jazzed about, EVERYONE here, at
FFnet, and in IM has zeroed in on Bruce's odd behavior as
something amiss.
And yet this is tame for the bat-prick in continuity comics. Hmm. Fear not, gang, I haven't gone over to the dark side. Things will become a little clearer after chapter 2, which will be posted very shortly if the RL-powers that be will permit. That said: I hope everyone wasn't so wrapped up in the Bruce mystery they missed the important info in that Bludhaven briefing. There's a quiz you know. It's a long ride into Bludhaven with Dick at the wheel if he gets the feeling you weren't paying attention to his slides. |

Re: Loose Ends | #6 | ||
Quote: Hmm indeed, Chris... but then, Cat-Tales readers have higher standards. That's why we like this universe: we don't want to read about "Bat-Prick" and "Cat-Whore", we want to read about Batman and Catwoman. There's a difference, as no-one knows better than you. And that's why everyone picked up on Bruce's behaviour: it was out of character for Batman -- the Batman you write about and that we have come to appreciate over 22 previous stories and the associated spin-offs. Maybe, just maybe, that kind of behaviour might have been expected during Hell-Month and/or if things then had gone down the toilet between Bruce and Selina or Bruce and Dick (and even then, I have my doubts), but not now, not this Bruce/Batman, and not with Selina/Catwoman sitting in on the briefing... So you only have yourself to "blame"... ----

FanFiction.net's favorite new trick. On the

uploaded, but the internal link is not in the story. The
only way you can get to it at the moment is with the

Carry Tiger to Mountain... | #9
|
Bruce really has a thing about that Siberian tiger,
doesn't he? I wonder how many more times he's going to
drop a clanger like that one about Shimbala before he
gets a clue that, 900 lbs of Arctic muscle/force of
nature or no, Selina does not regard the Catitat's
largest inhabitant as a weapon -- quite the reverse, in
fact.
This is classic Bruce -- desperately wanting to protect a loved one, to the point where he uses anyone and anything, including other loved ones whom he would, in other circumstances, be equally desperate to protect, as weapons, and expendable ones at that. Selina's right; he does need therapy -- but I suspect that she'd be the only one who he'd let give it to him. Still, talk about a job for life... Oh, and while it's not likely to be part of this story, here's an evil idea I just had for possible incorporation in a later Tale: have Bruce get shut, or have to hide, in Selina's closet, with or without her, Whiskers and/or Nutmeg... If nothing else, it'll put to rest the theory that that closet is actually a secret TARDIS... ----

It does look suspiciously like he was picking a
fight, now doesn't it. I mean, he knows that tiger is an
issue.
The closet. Heh, hehehe, heh heh heh, Oh Orion, you're evil. I like that in a reader. hehehehe |

TwoFace, thanks for the kind words.
(What, you say something like that and expect me not to respond?) All I did was ask what had happened to BlockBuster and the BPD. Now that he's married and Nightwing + Officer Richard Grayson were not there "full-time", I was wondering how BB + BPD would respond. Chris took that question and ran with it, applying her genuis and produced "Loose Ends". I'm sure you will enjoy the result... as I certainly am. As for being "an amazing fount of ideas"... well I do try to be a bit of an idea-smith after all. (Shameless plug: Sah-Rae Hyjo) Regarding the upcoming bit in the game...well we'll wait and see, as we have almost reached that part. And you come up with some pretty hot stuff as well. Look forward to reading the rest Chris! Keep up the good work. ---- Hugh |

Lo I'm new, I dont follow the comics, since they
don't describe the world as it should be (bruce/selina)
and go of on wierd tangents.
I would just like to say the Tim Allen comment was brilliant, just brilliant, when i was reading that part of the story I could see the drool as they looked at the car. I like the idea of having to hide in her closet, or better yet having her send him to look for something in there Love your work and I hope you update soon! |

I wonder if I'm alone in this. I've been reading
Cat-Tales for over a year now and I've come to realize
something. I don't actually read any Batman comics, but
I've always loved the character. Everytime I tried to
check out the actual comics it seemed like the writers
were trying their best to drive readers away. The canon
characters became caricatures of their real selves.
Reading Cat-Tales has rekindled my interest in Gotham and
it's denizens. To me, Chris's Bruce and Selina are real
and DC's versions are just cheap rip-offs that don't
interest me in any way at all. So thank you Chris, for
making me love these characters again. Loose Ends is a
great addition to the Cat-Tales universe.
Ciao.

"Man-grunts" and shoe-shopping... | #17
|
Y'know, as a male who generally shares Barbara's
views on cars, and who has suffered through far too many
"conversations" with motorheads, I
could be offended by that whole stereotype if I didn't
realise that, like most cliches, it's partially based on
fact...
...and that Chris had Selina comment that it's the flip-side of women going shoe shopping...! [Quick question: who would be more offended by that last -- Selina or Bruce? I'd rate it a tie; Selina would have her claws out for blood because she is most gloriously and proudly a woman, and Bruce would help for exactly the same reason! Be that as it may, there's obviously more to come as regards Bruce's behaviour, which is good, and it was nice to see Babs do her techno-wizard thing, baffling in turn (for different reasons) Selina and Dick; shame it's so hard to impress, much less confound, Bruce, or she'd have a hat-trick -- but, being so darned competent himself, he's learned to respect that in others, to the point of expecting it once he knows it's there. And Valeria, no, you're not alone; read some of the other threads on this MB, especially those relating to Pussy-whipped and you'll find that your opinions are shared by many -- just not by Herr Oberunterfuhrer O'Neill and his Denizens of Darkness who are responsible for Psychotic- (pronounced "bat-"; must be some of that weird English spelling ----

Valeria, Hell girl, I don't know what to say.
"Thank you SO MUCH" is becoming my
byword around here.
You're not alone in that there are at least two of us. I too LOVE these characters, and that's why I write them - if that's what I do, and I'm starting to wonder. It may be that it's them, and not me, who is so damn frustrated with the DC situation they just picked somebody to channel and get their personalities back, and I just get to take the credit. Anyway, no, you're not alone. DC does seem to be trying to drive readers away, and speaking for myself, they succeeded. I try to be hopeful - the new Loeb run starting next month is the most promising sign we've had in a long time that the drought may be coming to an end at last. In the meantime, we have the catverse. Long may she twitch her purple-clad tail. *** Orion, as always, you have my wheels a-turnin. Let's listen in. You're right that the boys & their toys thing is a stereotype, and I'm sure down deep Barb knows that. Selina, on the other hand, - I don't know, she may be starting to succumb to the shoe shopping - that trip with Doris, those Ivory pumps. I know, I know, she keeps saying she doesn't get it. And she's never EVER been in denial about anything, right *coughBatmancough*. As for Selina and cars, well hm, no she's not a motorhead, and she doesn't get all breathy about the Batmobile or anything. But I'll bet a vintage Jaguar would turn her head. (See if Bruce puts that one together before her birthday rolls around). Quote: Your lucky day, Orion. Selina didn't find it necessary to get out the claws. She looked at Bruce and asked "What is he blind?" While Bruce is still plenty riled, he is too heroic to beat up on a blind man. Anyhoots, moving along Quote: Really good observation. It reminds me of a story about Walt Disney (the man, not that family friendly corporation buying up half of Gotham, I mean Manhattan). When they were making Bambi, Walt wasn't happy with the score, he kept sending it back, saying it wasn't powerful enough. Finally he called the composer in while he was watching dailies (or whatever they call them in animation) for Fantasia. Had them run the fantasia soundtrack with the Bambi forrest fire - saying this was what he had in mind, see how it adds power and drama and a sense of scale. The composer was speechless: "But Walt," he stammered, "that's Beethoven " "Yeah" was all Walt replied. That's what he was expecting from people. That Beethoven was a genius of the kind that comes along once in a century was NOT perceived as too high a goal. They were making art. |

...of comments like Selina's to Bruce anent my
supposed accusation that she is genderless:
Quote:is that they can't convey the humour of her delivery. She has a nice line in dry sarcasm, does our favourite lady of the purple leather, one honed through many encounters with Batman, both before and after Cat-Tales the stage show -- and others, of course, but it's the Bat-Cat conversations that gave it the keenest edge. And I know she's using it here because she also has cat-sharp eyes, so she won't have missed the bit further down in that post about her being "most gloriously and proudly a woman"; nor, I expect, would Bruce, since it's one of the many things he loves about her. So I don't think I need to be lucky... But I do like the idea of Selina in a Jaguar; do you think Bruce, a man who appreciates craftsmanship, would consider it blasphemous if I suggested him getting her a E-type and painting it purple to match her costume? The E (or possibly the D) has always been thought of as the sexiest car ever made (in a variety of meanings of the word), so who better to drive one than Selina? ----
