In celebration of HUSH, Batman 608 hitting the
stands, I wanted to speed up release of Chapter 1. Just
felt like celebrating. Real art. Happy Sigh. A depiction
of Catty that doesn't make me wince. Happy Sigh.

Torches -- Silver Gold! | #1

Or, in other words, #25 is well up to scratch
Lots of romance in the air this time, I see -- not (yet) involving the usual suspects but, rather, a pairing that was referred to almost in passing, and another one (maybe) that has been missing so far. Do I need to add spoiler space (as distinct from space for Spoiler Nah.... Batgirl and Azreal -- or, rather, Jean-Paul, huh? Well, why not? Pheremones meets teenage hormones; lack of self-confidence around women (Ollie's teachings and the Nocturna Affair notwithstanding Of course, they do have to get past this shyness business, and Az-the-personality (why does that phrase make me think of him/it as one of those shallow TV presenters...? Meanwhile... Dr Leslie's coming back! Um... where's she been? (/me shows total lack of knowledge of current state of Batverse... and also that I didn't read the chapter properly. Oops... And then there's poor Eddie... Chris, have you been listening to QueryN again? (Hi, Q! So, Chris, as usual, I await the next chapter with not-quite-slavering anticipation -- as, I suspect, will many others. More, please, at your earliest convenience! ----

I just read Torches, and the idea of Az and Cassie
is way too cute. It's the classic tomgirl goes for
completely clueless boy. Awww....does thing mean we get
to see a real makeover, like the ones in most movies with
this scenario? Think of Ally Sheedy in Breakfast Club,
getting dolled up for jock Emelio Estaves.
HeeHee...Oracle looks a bit like Molly Ringwald,
right?
608 was great too. Everyone should read it. I stopped in the middle of my studying for mid terms to run out and grab a copy. I have the best prioties(sp?). Wait, I have another midterm tomorrow!!! What am I doing here!!!!! |

|
Yeah... Personally I liked Doris. She was nice. As
Orion said, she will be missed, specially because she
makes our dear QueryN so furious... he he he...
About Leslie, I was really happy about her return. She was always like a mother to Bruce and I think it was just in time for her to come back and find out that he finally found a woman who can put up with him... And the thing that made me most happy... Az and Cassie!!! I'm so glad they are back in the game. I really want to read about it! Thank you for bringing it up again! HEY!! Don't you dare smack Jervis!!
"Torches" in itself was - yet again - another great story. The only peeve I have is that there's not enough Jervis. But...you'll have that. |

Chris,
Great job on the conclusion! I checked here about three times a day, seeing if you had ended it yet. I guess it's enough to say that I am now hooked. I like the introduction to Leslie, and especially the inferences to Jack Daniels ad Azreal. What I wouldn't give to see that man drunk! The next story looks great. |

Timing, they say, is everything... | #12
|
...and an awful lot of the Cat-verse inhabitants
seem to be smarting from the wrong end of that platitude.
Cases in point (and there be spoilers here, so go read
the story first, if you haven't already -- NOW!):
#1) Jean-Paul. He finally works himself up to talk to Selina, and it has to be just when she's so annoyed with Harvey that she has, unconsciously or not, resorted to going shoe-shopping! #2) Eddie. Doris has dumped him, the Thrill-Seekers From Hell (aka Harv and Roxy) saddle him with a twit with so much in the way of neo-post-modernist de-re-deconstructionist psycho-- ah, the heck with it! The woman's a moron! #3 to 6 could be Bruce, Cass, Penguin and Dr Bartholomew, in any order, according to taste. Each of them has his or her own troubles. However, Bruce -- of all people -- is the one who is luckiest that way, because he has Selina to put up with him and help him deal with them. I just hope he realises how lucky he is: I can understand being so tired that he falls back on long-ingrained habits, however inappropriate, and stubbornness, but to try to deal with Selina -- and an annoyed Selina at that, after Harvey's faux pas at lunch -- like she was one of the bimboes... well, he could well have been regretting it for the next six months, if not permanently! But, instead, they spend a quiet evening together, mutually comforting one another. Heart-warming stuff, Chris, and I mean that in the best way possible; these two characters really have grown over the course of the Tales. However, methinks the lady is protesting just a little too much as regards the "I have not changed sides" bit... Which only leaves a couple of unanswered questions for next time: what is Joker up to? And what is Dr Bartholomew going to get up to? And does the world really need another Arkham staff member with a few screws loose upstairs and a grudge? We await Blonde Jokes with the usual interest. ----

Hi guys, as always, THANK YOU for the feedback.
*waves to Alyce & Query* Alyce, I know I haven't said much about if/how/when Jervis will make a larger appearance. It's not that I didn't see your comment. Truth is, I'm not sure yet what the future holds for most of the rogues. Selina, I'm especially glad you're enjoying Az. I'd be remiss if I didn't credit Ken, our own resident choir boy, who totally opened the character up for me. It's amazing how much less psychotic the Az-side is when you take him out of the rooftop fatherfigure hallucination business and stick him between Jean Paul's ears where he belongs. Orion, yet again your response has my wheels turning in a dozen directions, and I can't wait to see where they lead. 1) JP & Selina - garsh, I think I have to fall back on Alfred's reflections in re Anatole & the French. The "new" relationship is probably going to play out pretty much like the old one. Only time will tell tho. 2) just what does Ivy want from Eddie, especially the morning after the night before? I'm asking, you're asking, when his head clears Eddie will be asking - but the scary thing is, I don't think Pammy knows herself. As for Clurissa, there's a real groupie-ish phenomenon (and a stalker version too, unfortunately) along the lines of: Joey Fatone belongs to the world, but Les Claypool is mine. --and if that statement EVER works its way back to Les Claypool, I didn't mean that the way it sounded. 3) Bruce. Yep, he really has grown, and yet he still falls back on old habits, don't we all. The way he lucked out with Selina, in my view, is that she had forgotten the Harvey upset after Jean Paul's visit - the reminder of AzBat had her in a particularly pro-Bruce frame of mind. Now the bad news - I don't believe he does know how lucky he is, either on that timing or with Selina in general - because Bruce doesn't think in terms of "luck." He's more self-destiny guy. Certainly he'd never blame "bad luck" or "bad timing" when he could blame himself instead. Good luck - hmm - it's an interesting nugget we've stumbled upon. Might warrant looking into. >>methinks the lady is protesting just a little too much as regards the "I have not changed sides" bit... I'm not saying you're wrong, we all remember her insisting she and Batman were just enemies that enjoyed sexually charged banter instead of spitting venom like some... but historically only MirrorBitch can get away with telling her something like that without turning into a scratching post, so let's move along to... Dr Bartholomew. I guess only time will tell how he deals with his disappointment about Leslie and the stresses of his, er, chosen profession. You're right that the world certainly doesn't need another Arkham staffer with a few screws loose. But cut the guy a break, he spends his days listening to rogues rant and rave, and not even Poison Ivy appreciates his garden view office. It takes a toll. Good news: Even in Gotham not EVERYBODY copes by donning spandex and setting the city on fire. Just what Dr.Bart will do, only time will tell. |

Mmmmm... Tiger Beat crushes....
Once again, Chris, beautifully crafted and expertly written. Bravo. Of course, the Eddie/Pammy connection was... well... bordering on disturbing. There's a "Green on Green" joke there, but I won't say it, I'll just find a clever way to insinuate it instead. Harvey and Roxy "riding the rocket" past the Iceberg. And poor Dr. Bart. *Sigh* Unrequited love... ain't it a bitch. I do have to say, though, seeing the title of the next arc has me a bit worried. "Blonde Jokes"? I worry for Az, Dinah, Steph, Harley... and *gasp* possibly even Ollie!! Just remember: "Blonde isn't a hair color, it's a state of mind!" "Handcuff Arrows. Net Arrows. Boxing Glove Arrows? Dad. to!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! And if the story is anything as good as Torches it is sure to be another hit. Ivy and Eddie?! One shudders to think. Greenhouse jokes spring to mind as well. HAHAHA! That was beautifully written Chris, well done. The scene where Roxy and Harv... um... rocket past still brings tears to my eyes. And as Uncle Jack's biggest fan, so did the scene where Az and JPV wake up next morning! |

All in all, another great chapter. Can't wait to read the next installment of Cat-Tails. Though, I must admit, "Blonde Jokes"... I just hope that Jervis isn't too involved in them... |

:) I'm really glad you're all enjoying.
Now an announcement: Regretably the next installment of Cat-Tails may be delayed while some of us try and coax Ivy out of her trailer. She gave a grim "gotta go along to get along" smile at 'Green-on-Green' and 'Greenhouse effect' but it seems talk of 'the rash' and other responses to her appearance in Torches has her quite depressed. I'll get a new chapter out as soon as I can, but the fact is, I may be spending the weekend looking at baby pictures of Ivan 2. |

Time to borrow a phrase from the OLD
JLA...
BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAAA!!!!! Oh my goodness, but that was fun. Okay, so JP will never, eh-eh-ever figure out how to deal with Catwoman, but I've got to give the boy credit for trying. ('course, I'm just a *smidge* biased...) However, even though I completely enjoyed (and understood) Jean Paul's reaction to Gentleman Jack (not to mention his talk with Az that led up to it...), what made me laugh the most was Bruce's reaction to Cheeto's dust all over the equipment! (Especially since my roommate just finished a bag of them, and his keyboard is now slightly orange!!!) I know folks have already commented on how well written the characters are, and I agree with them completely. (Still pushing to get you hired at DC... Kudos Chris, I hope you find time soon to continue. Ken/JPV/Az (and occasionally Ra's) |
