Very cute. Especially the WW story. Never
underestimate the bat it seems. I never thought of
Riddler and Zantanna, but it makes sense in an odd way. I
wait with bated breath for the next installment (but
don't let that rush you. I'm not breathing anyway because
finals are coming up)

this has got to be one of the best chat stories
i've read for a while. =] i love the little blurbs of
everyone phoning everyone. and this auction looks like
it's gonna start getting pretty busy!

Oh wow! I have to agree with Query. I just LOVED
the phone conversations. Too funny! I suck at giving good
critiques so I'll just stick to the compliments.
I have read some chat/convo stories before and they were hard to follow. But you write them so well that it's really easy to trace. Very awesome! |

RL is keeping me too busy to do much more than read
at present, but let me say something and ask
something...
First up, this is, as usual, great, Chris. Very neat interweaving of the newspaper items and the phone calls, and lots of potential for fun and games in the future. And I have to wonder what Alfred's play is about... But I did notice one thing: almost all of the newspaper extracts have follow-ups in the phone calls -- usually in the one immediately following the extract in the text. The only one that doesn't is the Lonely Hearts classified from a certain night-club owner... I wonder why? Lots of material for speculation there... Ah, well, roll on chapter 3! ----

Thanks guys!
In response to comments here and elsewhere. I'm very glad everyone liked the newspaper/phonecall format. It was an experiment, gotta try something new now and then. And as with all experiments there was the chance I'd just make smelly yellow fog >> I'm surprised Arkham put Harley through. >> They do know her real name after all. >> (Even with Arkham's high staff turnover rate >> you'd figure they'd keep track of things better than that.) This reviewer has clearly never experienced the wonder of nature that is an office temp. >> And I have to wonder what Alfred's play is about... Indeed. What do you think the chances are, with a secrets-revealing Tome circulating, that we'll find out before long >> almost all of the newspaper extracts have follow-ups >> in the phone calls -- The only one that doesn't is >> the Lonely Hearts classified from a certain night-club >> owner... I wonder why? So does Oswald. |

Chris,
As usual: fun, funny and entertaining. I think it's safe to assume that the phone/newspaper format worked, and worked well! Very Anderson Tapes. This does bring up an interesting point as well -- okay so this should probably go into the Writer's Forum, but well, I'm too lazy The reference above to The Anderson Tapes is in regards to a book of that name by mystery/suspense novelist Lawrence Sanders. The entire book is the story of one person's life of crime told through FBI Case File reports, phone and wire tap transcripts, notes and information found on the criminal at the time of his arrest, etc. Very fascinating and fun read... it provides the reader with all of the "official" information and allows you to draw your own conclusion about particular events and, in fact, the criminal's entire life. Unfortunately, a lot of that mystique and intrigue were lost in the movie version of the story... but I digress. Anyway, enough literary hootenanny... well done, Chris. Can't wait for more!! Did Alfred merely forget the shopping bag, or did
he take the wrong one? I would hate to think he got home
and realized the only thing inside his bag was not a
manuscript, but in fact a baby.

RE: Part 3
I usually post a "review" on FFnet, but I'll use this forum instead. When I initally read the opening paragraphs, I got the feeling of just how long it had been since I'd checked in on the "Cat-Tails" world. You didn't pick up right where you left off, you brought us up to speed in present time; very nice, effective. After the writing technique used in the last chapter (which was very good, by the way), I read this and it had the effect alarms going off in my head >>> demanding my attention. Here's what I liked: "The dark man..." The use of details in the trophy room. YES, the giant penny was from "The Penny Plunderers," a comicbook story where Batman was after a crook named Joe Coyne. [This story was reprinted, along with many others on how Batman acquired his trophies, in a '70s 100-pg. issue of Batman #256, which also contained an original Catwoman story too. Nice back issue if you can find it.] With the advent of post-Crisis and a new wave of Batman fans from the movie and animated series finding the comics, I think some asked how Batman got a giant penny in the cave and the then Bat-editorship said it was from a Two Face story. Still, I love details like that. Like the description of the Robinson Plaza Hotel. Interesting to see Lori Elton back in this chapter; after all she was just kinda a blurb in the previous one. If memory serves from the comics, Lori dumped Dick in favor of another guy (who turned out to be a villain known as the Raven). Dick exposed him, but the damage to the relationship was done. But, the blurb about Dick flunking abnormal psychology was priceless. I kinda had to pay attention the seating chart description played out, but you gave me a good visual. This chapter kind of served as a personal testament to me on how much I can miss this series after a bit of a layoff. Once I started reading a few paragraphs of your new stuff, I started to crave more. Thank you. |

The Demon's Head does not like
cliffhangers.
Otherwise, another brilliantly written chapter...even the cliffhanger, because you have my writer cursing to no end trying to figure out what exactly is going on! Kudos to anyone who can confound Ken! (drat, Ra's almost got the last word on me. Ubu, go annoy your master.) |

You know what...? | #15 | ||

I'm disappointed!
And Here's why: I've been away from a decent internet connection for about six months so, understandably, I did not get a chance to experience the joys of Cat Tales. On my return to (bliss!) said decent internet connection, I found (much to my mixed dismay and pleasure) that I was rather behind on my Cat Tales. Once my initial shock was over, I got down to CATching up Anyway, that insignificant rant out of the way, must say that I'm really intrigued as to how this story will pan out. As usual Chris, you don't disappoint! Hope you'll be done soon, it's hard to fill in the time between new-comic-book-Thursdays "If a dollar was a chicken, would the

ussentinel, as always, your feedback leaves me
breathless. You manage to ID every little detail of the
comicsverse I slide in wondering if anyone will notice,
and despite this detailed knowledge, you don't rail at me
for daring to make a Batman who smiles (well, ok,
twitches at the lip, but we all know what it
means)
The retconning of the Penny - Yeah, good point. I had forgotten about that, but c'mon, it's not a silver dollar, it's a PENNY, that's ONE CENT. 1/100th of $1. Does anybody think Two-Face would get within two city blocks of the thing? And Dinosaur Island - neat thing, I was cleaning out my RL version of Selina's closet, and happened upon a SECOND Dinosaur Island story. This one was in a Batman Chronicles. I didn't take time to read in detail (cause, you understand, once you open the hellmouth, the clock is ticking), but it seemed to be B investigating a murder of the guy who had built Dinosaur Island in the first place, B taking special interest in the case because he had the big dino in the cave. Ra's, um, thanks. I'll get chapter 4 out there shortly. Won't be nearly as long a wait, I promise. God knows I don't want you and hanging around, tapping your feet, getting Lazarus pitgoo on my carpets. Dre! Welcome back! See my reply to Ra's. Chapter 4 (which may or may not be the conclusion, I haven't decided) will be around real soon. In the meantime, while you wait, maybe the Jedi in your personal pic can stop Ra's from dripping Lazarus goo on my carpets. |

My Jedi could probably wipe the floor with Ra's.
He's the only Jedi shorter and older than Yoda so he'd
probably give Ra's a run for his money in the geriatric

I resent that comment. I do not drip goo all over
carpets. Case in point, I have carpet in every room of my
mansion, and there is not a drop of Lazarus Pit Goo in
the entire place!
*Ubu comes up behind Ra's, whispers something in his ear, then backs away slowly.* Ok, so I have a cleaning service that takes care of such trifling details! I will be sure to keep them on standby in case anything should mar your carpets, my good lady writer. *Well, at least she didn't call him "The Hairdo" this time.* Attempting to sick jedi on me. How strangely invigorating. Ubu, bring me my lightsaber! *Darth Ra's is in the hiz-ouse!* (Did I just write that? Excuse me, please, it must be the mudslides talking...) |
