Anyway, I am currently practicing my writing skills a lot, since my vocal skills have stop until the beginning of the week...I hope.

THE BASTARD HALF-BROTHER is, in fact, a shot at DC, having once again lost their collective mind by insinuating (those of you who know might want to say it aloud with me now): Bane Wayne.

Seriously.

Do you realize if DC had its way, if Lois divorced Clark and married the steroid case, they'd be Mr & Mrs Bane Lane-Wayne. And if Jonathan Crane (originally, not many know this, he's from Bangor, the Cranes of Maine) got together with that fanfic writer from the latest Gotham Adventures, they would be the Staines-Cranes.
If both couples produced offspring, Bane Junior & Jane... And that's when my head explodes.

Anyway as for the reviewer who e-mailed me asking if it had any other significance, that would be telling.

Anyway, moving along. Yes, you got me, I've been holding onto 'batboys' for a while now. *naughty grin*


Terri, Great observation. There are many Cat-Tales moments I wish I could supply a visual for, several involve Alfred, and in this one, when Bruce introduces him as the actor who's going to play the butler, I have in my head this knowingly puzzled 'what are you up to' stare that goes back to when Bruce as a kid.
Then of course once he FIGURED OUT what Bruce was up to (which would take him all of 10 minutes)... as Alfred used to say on the old series: My Word.

...because it's Saturday night, so as usual, they've happily settled down on the couch, wearing headphones, to watch Law and Order, and I keep breaking their concentration by guffawing at Chapters 2 and 3!

This is brilliant, Chris, and the humour is a wonderful counterpoint to the mystery atmosphere (Tension is mounting... and not riding away! ). The piece de resistance, though, has got to be Talia, and the fact that you resisted the obvious temptation of having Selina and the demon-spawn meet makes it all the funnier and stops the story lasping into farce -- which wouldn't work with the more serious aspect of the forthcoming mystery.

Just promise me one thing, please: you must have Bruce tell Selina about the tattoo! In a way, it's a karmic payback for her going along with his Irene Adler fantasy, and she deserves to know that he disposed of Talia in such a manner. Oh, and Omar deserves a bonus or a gift, or something for helping out; I'm just not sure who'd want to give it to him the most, Bruce or Selina. Probably Bruce.

Oh, and one minor typo/nit-pick: Lord Peter's surname is Wimsey. The h only appears in the family motto: I hold by my Whimsey. Or does it? Dorothy Sayers was a bit inconsistent in that particular detail, sometimes spelling the motto with the h and sometime not. And, of course, the modern spelling of the word on which it is a pun is "whimsy".

I only just read Gotham Knights today, so when I got to the surprise ending, I thought to myself, "Hm. I wonder if Chris had that in mind when she wrote Chapter Two."

A few minutes later, I convinced myself that this had been a rhetorical question and I had known the too-obvious answer all along.

So, two men in white tie and tails, one of whom is the "victim" (don't know if he's dead or not). Three people in hooded brown robes. Sounds like opportunities for mistaken identities and disguises. (And why do I have the feeling that the mystery is already 90% solved for anyone who goes back and reads the first three chapters a few more times?)

I halfway suspect Eddie of arranging this whole thing, just to see if anyone could figure it out AND be able to watch. On the other hand, it's equally possible that he's innocent and he'll want to solve the crime before anyone else does. He is Hercule, after all. He's not going to play Watson (who only solved the mystery in a Stephen King story, for gods sake) to Bruce's Sherlock. He's going to want to show Hercule is the better detective (and impress Doris). And how does Bruce solve the crime without giving anyone the idea that he's not a nimrod after all?

Joker as Pagliacci. I love it. Great job, Chris, really. As Carly Simon once sang, "Anticipa-ation . . ."

Sherlock Holmes honored for chemistry

LONDON — It may seem elementary now, but when Sherlock Holmes used his knowledge of chemistry to crack cases, he broke important ground in crime detection.

Yesterday, the Royal Society of Chemistry recognized the contribution to forensic science made by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective with a coveted honorary fellowship — the first time a fictional character has been honored.

"Sherlock Holmes was way beyond his time in using chemistry and chemical sciences as a means of cracking crime," said John Watson, a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and namesake of Holmes' doctor friend.

Well, I think its fairly safe to say I was thrown.

Which is an achievement in mystery writing, so you are to be congratulated Chris.

Didnt see that outcome coming in the least - the part where Bruce justifies to Selina his thoughts about Talia (ie snoopy and woodstock) I felt it was extremely reminiscent of a conversation we had in which I suggested that Snoopy and Woodstock was very OOC for Talia, and you responded to me exactly the same words Bruce does to Selina. Which made me laugh, largely at my own ability to be completely duped.

So yes. Congratulations, the story is great. I can;t really say that much about it for fear of spoilers - it was great to see the old boy quoted so many times though, and those extracts from the essay at the end warmed the old cockles.

Consider yourself complimented Chris.
