In Shakespeare, only the Fool can mock the king. In
Gotham... it's Harley's birthday.

Ah, a new story and categorised as Humor/General.
Fun!
Well, someone got his requested roofprowl. I loved Selina's reasoning. It reminded me of an earlier scene when Batman complained about the lack of professionalism by some burglars and compared them with Selina. Both of them really are proud of her abilities and both of them haven't got the patience to deal with the 'plebs'. Nice scene, I look forward to Bruce's reaction. Being king, Arthur Curry aka Aquaman aka Orin doesn't have to worry about the opinion and the votes of his people, which is a good thing because the way he formulated that request to Bruce ... a cold shiver ran up my spine when I read it. Therefore I presume that the title 'Fool' refers mostly to him and not to Harley Quinn. Shakespeare once wrote: "Better a witty fool than a foolish wit." You can find both of them in this chapter. Unfortunately the foolish wit is a good guy. Thanks, Chris. This chapter makes me prepare for catastrophic, but hilariously funny, events in the next chapters. Somehow, I think a certain Dark Knight is going to sigh and say: "O, I am Fortune's fool." The suspense is not killing me, but it's certainly gnawing at me. I'm glad Steph made an appearance like you promised. Is what she was doing in the vault a reference to her hairstyle in the Post? Anyway, do I have to repeat my praise every chapter? There are only so much variants on the word <adoration>. Loved it. |

Ah! You've started the new story already, Chris!
Thank you for that.
Okay, this might be a little unstructured, but I'm writing my comments as I read. Firstly - Hooray! I love how you mix lunacy with psychology in the twisted-shrink Rogues. Harley is a great example of someone who is technically brilliant but whose criminal tendancies completely cripple her. Quote: Okay, that one is going on my list of phrases to use in casual conversation. Steph was getting a glamour shot done in the BatCave?!? Don't worry too much, Selina. Bruce can be over-protective, but he understands The Mission better than any other being. Criminal scum get their lumps whenever and wherever you encounter them. Okay, you might get an abbraision or two in the process, but this is the nature of The Mission. Just don't tell him that it was offended professionalism rather than a desire to fight crime and he will let it slide with a promise to introduce you to Zogger one day. Arthur... *sigh* No, why bother? Tact was never his strong point. Bruce will probably filter out the high-handed crap and will focus on issues. Selina might even be interested in the job. Nonetheless, I would have thought that Arthur of all people wouldn't dare to doubt Bruce's dedication to protecting the ordinary man and woman. I guess being a king and in Atlantis most of the time these days probably is affecting his judgement a little. (Bruce raises an eyebrow and parrots: "A little?") Harley is going to write a book? BenRG's Rating: 8/10 ~ You've got me all tingly, wondering what is going to happen next! ~*~*~*~ They call me BenRG But... I don't know why... ~*~*~*~ |

The fact that you have Harley Quinn bent on revenge
in the same story as Jason Blood doing anything worries me deeply. Someone's about to be
Harveyed.
And guess what song started playing on the radio while I was reading this? Gotta love synchronicity... ************************************

Joker owning a Subaru Minivan; now that is one
image that will have people laughing without needing to
be gassed first. With that said, this book idea sounds
like it's going to end with Harley hospitalized instead
of famous.
So Selina is now Bruces' pet cat burglar. Arthur better have a good hiding place otherwise he's going to end up being Atlantis very first royal scratching post. |

As has been pointed out in JLAin't, Arthur can
handle whales with PMS (not to mention Diana), he's not
going to sweat one woman with her fur ruffled.
None the less: "Better a witty fool than a foolish wit." is worth snatching. Thanks Igor! Thanks for the feedback everybody. More soon. |

Typing reactions as I read along....
Harley: Heh. You go, girl. I'm not entirely sure how "I'm behind on my Life Plan and that needs correcting!" really jives with "Get Joker Back, Both Ways!", but at least part one, in which buttons are pushed, should be very enthusiastically pursued. Oh, and I especially enjoyed the line about the car, and so did Dearly Beloved. Jason Blood. Manipulating him into leaving town for no other reason than some scaled-winged-demonic ex-girlfriend was whipping up a little Apocalypse in Gotham, and Etrigan didn’t want to see her. caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackle and a jolt of glee for the upcoming crossover of these two subplots. Arthur's line that got quoted in "More Things We'll Never See...>": and there's my spittake and hysterical giggles, I was wondering where in this story that'd come in. And finally: So THAT'S how she's going to do it! Oh, my! HAHAHAHeeheeheh ... Joker's going to flay her alive, isn't he? Heh. Thanks! I love this story already. Edit: Stupid closing tags. Aargh. Sorry. |

Well, I got my “prowling” incident even
sooner than I thought I would! Thanks, Chris! Now to see
what the rest of the Batclan, not just Bruce, thinks of
the incident. After all, Oracle does monitor the police
frequencies; she’s apt to notice the
patrolman’s report of finding a group of hoods
unconscious outside Cartier’s. And since she
habitually keeps tab on the whereabouts of all the other
Batclan operatives on patrol, she’s also apt to
deduce that none of them were in the vicinity at the
right time to account for this incident. I think
she’d start investigating, just to find out if
there’s a newbie hero out there trying to stake a
crimefighting claim in “Batman’s
city”… (Not that she necessarily agrees with
Bruce’s POV, but the Goddess of Information would
naturally hate to appear clueless if Batman asked her
about it later.)
Regarding the main plot of this story (or so it appears from this first chapter), Harley’s plot to “pay (her Puddin’) back and get him back”… Kimberly T.

I was thinking about Harvey... has he ever
considered going straight and being a lawyer? Look at the
benefits to both of him!
He gets to be a lawyer again. He gets to be a lawyer, making his crimes legal. He would represent those who needed his great skills. He could really piss off Batman by getting the Rogues off. He could have more of a mainstream life... ...which gives him the chance to wreak more havoc He can get rich... ... without getting beaten up. He can enjoy the finer things in life... ...without as much pain. |

Re: Harvey going legal again? | #9 | ||
Quote: I'm sure that Harvey has considered it, Nam. Indeed, the Post once reported that Harvey was considering resurrecting his career after his first stay at Arkham. However, this is where we get into the sticky problems associated with true non-amnesiac MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder). To wit: the various personalities will have differing goals and attitudes that will make any long-term goal-seeking objective difficult at best. In this case, Harvey's worse half is chaotic and somewhat coarse. He wouldn't like the niceties and polite nature of legal crime and would always be doing things like beating up opposing attorneys in court, cussing the judge and trying to steal from the people in the public seats. ~*~*~*~ They call me BenRG But... It's been up a whole day and I didn't catch it. How
did I let that happen? Ah well, a treat for
today.
Joker: the Unauthorized Biography has so much naughty potential. I love it! I'm not too worried about Harl. She's survived the Joker this far so I assume she has all the survival traits of the common cockroach. Complete nuclear devastation and there'll be Harley, the cockroach and maybe Superman left. I know it's been addressed already but, "borrow your pet cat- burglar!!!!!!!!!!" Now that's unwise on so many levels. Never mind the cats water = somebody gets scratched, equation. Jonathan Crane is loose with Selina hurt and possibly out of Bruce's sight for a mission outside of Gotham. Oh, my! This is going to be so much fun! |

Yeah, I know. She's completely out of her mind. It's not easy to make Talia (even evolving-Talia) look well-adjusted and in touch with reality, but Harley can pull it off. She's the only one who can. >> someone’s going to be Harveyed Sad when you wind up adding a word to the language in that way, isn't it. And again we say: Poor Harvey. >> Steph-as-Robin *naughty grin* >> Complete nuclear devastation and there'll be Harley, the cockroach and maybe Superman left. Curiously enough, Bruce has said the exact same thing. Really, he used just those very words, it's in the logs: February 19th 2002. “I felt drops of icy sweat dripping up my back. I am aware that icy and sweat are contradictory by their very nature and should not be able to coexist in the same freakish bead of ICK WHAT IS THAT falling up my back. I am also aware things are not supposed to fall up. For that matter criminals aren’t supposed to get it on with crime-fighters. Yet here we were: Catwoman, Batman, Icy, Sweat, Dripping, Up. Sometimes life is like that." |

Nice.
Poor Steph. I find myself liking the girl. As long as she stays out of the Robin suit. Also, are there any plans for showing Robin's expanded Rogues Gallery, Chris? Personaly, I think a scene with Bruce explaining how to handle an arch-nemesis to Tim would be alot of fun. One thing I did fully support of Whitingham's was the idea to give Robin more enmies, including his own "Joker". Also, yee. Harley writing a book on the Rogues. I could see this as putting Jack back into one of his deadly moods, leading up to, joy, a really good Batman/Joker tussle. Or not. Either way, I'll be reading! |

So what does Aquaman want? That much at least will
be answered in Chapter 2: Cats and Water

An interesting ride, and an interesting style,
giving little asides within the main story.
Ah! So that is what Arthur wants. Oddly enough, I think that something big, dramatic and open would probably be better in purely political terms - This is what happens when you screw with Orin I and his people. I also think that he is underestimating the League's likely response to a plea for help, even from Clark and Diana. However, I do understand the equally good reason for Arthur not wanting to cause too much of a diplomatic tangle over this whole split jurisdiction thing. Selina is a cool one, isn't she? The sub-plots are getting interesting. What has happened to Harvey's face? I sense Jason (or, possibly, Etrigan's) hand in this, but for what purpose? As for Harley... She might have a chance of getting this to work! I do love her chapter title for her comments on Scarecrow. Poor guy, I always suspected that he was a little confused about what team he is supposed to play on. BenRG's Rating: 8/10 ~*~*~*~ They call me BenRG But... I don't know why... ~*~*~*~ |

The grand tour of Atlantis was magnificent. I,
also, loved the way you handled Aquaman. If he's half
that cool in the comic book, I'm going to have to start
reading it again. I love his solution to the politicians'
BS. I can't wait to see how Catty deals with these
jerks.
Phylum Asylum? Bwa-ha ha! Was she tactless enough to show all her chapter headings to her esteemed colleague? Not wise. Harvey and Jason's meeting was intriguing but I bet it will be even more so next chapter assuming we get to hear Harvey explain it to Bruce. Another fun chapter. Thanks! |

Hrmm. One thing's for sure, once Harley has her
book published the Rogue's Gallery will have no problem
at all seeing her as a villain - possibly worse than Jack

Arthur sure likes to piss off Bruce. It sounds like
he is the only member of the JLA that isn't afraid of him
besides Clark. Bruce laughing while in custom must mean
hell has finally frozen over. It's a shame Selina didn't
get it on tape since no one is ever going to believe her
that it happened since Bruce will most likely deny it
till the day he dies (even if he doesn't deny it they
probably still wouldn't believe it).

Clark isn't afraid of Bruce? I think I have to
quibble about that...
Let's see now: we have Jason Blood feeling... is charitable really the word I want here? We have Harley working on the next New York Times bestseller. We have Selina working for Arthur. We have Bruce exposed to fear toxins again. We have Selina injured- not severely, but still injured. And we have Steph wearing something she shouldn't. ... Yep. No doubt about it. Somebody, or more likely several somebodies, are about to be Harveyed on a scale that defies description. ************************************

Thanks guys. For those interested in learning more
about Arthur the two best sources, in order:
JLAin't, of course! And the Aquaman comic starting with Issue #16, discussed here in DC Discuss, that establishes "Sub Diego" is where I began. The most recent issue (#21 I think) introduces the infant air-breather incident that inspired this subplot in CT. |
