Like all first chapters: the pieces are set in
motion and it looks like it's going to be a very
interesting and entertaining game.
Some (Post)issues get adressed and Chris goes for the kill, while Catty would like to really go for the kill but can't because she wants to avoid a media-circus. Talia, you've grown a sense of humor and a few braincells?! Damnit all woman, I even might start to like you. Btw Babs, nobody likes the Swiss. Glory! Glory! Halelujah! (3x) CT is marching on! Glory! Glory! Halelujah! (3x) The Post keeps dredging on! Diversity,
Europe's greatest weakness is also its greatest strength.
This is a time when we need to discuss what we're going
to do with it.

When you dropped hints about this, I was expecting
the reappearance of the Strange Serum. (Which hasn't been
seen since the Crisis reboot.)
I must admit, hypnotizing the subject into a fitness fanatic makes much more sense. Though I suspect that there may be some conventional steroids involved as well. I hadn't heard the Post's explanation for Blake's makeover before this. I remember an appearance in GA'a book, but the last we saw of him there, he was being kidnapped by Msr. Malla. I had also heard he got eaten by Mr. Gorilla, but that never sticks in the comics. |

Just a note to Deadpan: I am speculating a bit on
the Post's explanation, but before leaving to join up
with whatever faction that was in Villains United, Blake
was shown mailing a letter to Oliver Queen. Seemed like a
hint where they're going with it.

I know it is pointless "trying to get into
their heads" as Selina has put it more than
once. However, I can't help wonder what Hugo is thinking
of. Okay, maybe trying to get Selina interested in Tom
Blake (as ridiculous the idea is) might throw Bruce
off-balance, whether or not she is interested in the newly-buff Catman. However,
it is difficult to tell what the point of this long, difficult process is supposed to
be. Over to you Hugo, I'm sure that you'll explain in
detail when you get Bruce into the "Unescapable
Death Trap (c) Mk. 10"
I found it interesting that Hugo could hypnotise Blake so easily. I suppose that mind control is easy when there is so little mind to control. BTW - I assume that Hugo is responsible for Eddie's tattoo as well. What on earth is going through that crazy gnome's head? I couldn't help but smile at Greg's summation of Talia's problems. Could it be that she can outgrow her father and Bruce? Is it even possible that she might get to be happy? Well, if Bruce can fall for Selina and Eddie find out his secret identity without trashing the Manor, I suppose anything is possible. Speaking of the big relationship, I agree that Whiskers' interest in that little bat is a little bit too strong imagery for early in the morning. No wonder that Selina had to hit the 'Berg for a drink or two. I vote that something is going to happen at the big museum opening. Will the Bat and the Cat have their first official double-team? We will have to wait and see. BenRG's Rating: 8/10 - good start. ~*~*~*~ While I'm here... RIP Frank Gorshin - The one and only true Riddler... "Wild!" ~*~*~*~ They call me BenRG But... Heya Ben,
On the hypnosis, that would have been a post-hypnotic trigger Hugo planted previously when he had Blake under. All things being equal, the more often a subject is hypnotized, the easier it gets. And Hugo has been chipping away at the ol Tomcat in various ways since Arkham Tale. Plus, as you noted, there's very little mind to control. Cats everywhere, who pride themselves as a remarkably intelligent species, are unanimous in their opinion that Blake should have taken that fabric of Ka and fashioned himself Grouseman or Pheasantman or Chipmonkman |

He paused and looked at her sternly… and saw a daring, impish smile steal across her features. Oh, that's good.... I may be a capon, but I’m a mean, crowbar-wielding, psychopath capon. Oh, that's very good! Some of my favorite scenes have been the ones between Eddie and 'Lina. I don't pity Hugo if he seriously tries to maneuver either of those two as pawns in his plan; I'm sure they can come up with much worse, between the two of them, than just removing Hugo's oblongata through his belly button. And now, Selina ought to get her friend Eddie some sort of birthday present, something to cheer him up. Y'know what'd really cheer him up? Make Bruce help arrange the present. Selina could make Bruce could get Eddie invited to the Museum. Then Bruce has to stand there, the whole event, and stew, because he's wondering what Eddie's going to do to the Museum. Which is nothing; Eddie's already doing it ... enjoying the spectacle and driving the Bat nuts. Won't the Museum board members feel slighted if their event isn't at least tweaked by one of the highest-status Rogues? Heh. Good reason for Catwoman to switch some paintings, at the least. |

*snark*
Great chapter here Chris, but its the little bits that truely make it work. Greg's understanding of Talia. Bruce letting Nutmeg have the Envelope, if not the invitation. Selina realising what REALLY has Eddie down. One little concern... you just said Hugo had been hypnotising Blake for a while, but it sure seemed like little, if no time, had passed between the end if IE and now. You might wanna slip in a bit of exposlition filling in on that in the next chapter (or not, it IS your story after all) just to note that sort of thing. "I was an Otaku before those kids
came along and changed the meaning of the

Those were some nice scenes between Greg andTalia.
It looks like she may actually find some happiness, if
Greg is able to undo all of the mental anguish caused by
Ras.
I don't know what Hugo's plans for Blake are but I think it's safe to assume whatever those plans are, Blake isn't going to be coming out of this in one piece. Quote: Jarissa, that would be pretty funny to watch. |

Just had to say:
Quote: I loved her two-sided reaction. Much cackling ensued. Oh, one other thing: Holy crap, Greg & Talia are not only good together, but good *for* each other!!?! This worries me. Somehow it seems, this does not bode well. I don't know how yet, but for some reason I sense impending doom. Good chapter, good start. As always, I'm waiting for more. "There is no such thing

badly written. That is all."

Hmmm. Interesting start. Usually when people start
musing along the lines of "what happened to the
good old days" they go out and try to make the
good ol' days again. Heh, Gotham's a lot of things, but
boring it isn't.

Morning all. As always I appreciate all the
wonderful feedback.
Igor! I laughed out loud at your aside to Babs. And Kudos for seeing straight off the bat that it's an opening chapter and, while I try to make it funny and fun (it's always fun for me when the rogues take the stage), there is that background element of moving the pieces onto the gameboard. Deadpan! Yep, I think it's fair to say Tim & Hugo are not above any chemical enhancements that will help them reach their goal. Ben! >> it is difficult to tell what the point of this long, difficult process is supposed to be. Hugo is delighted that, at last, somebody appreciates his stature as a diabolically subtle mastermind. >> BTW - I assume that Hugo is responsible for Eddie's tattoo as well. Yes, while at the Gotham Post offices persuading the staff to run Blake's photo, he dropped a few suggestions in there regarding Eddie. >>What on earth is going through that crazy gnome's head? That'll teach him to besmirch the fine old family name of Strange >> Talia's problems. Could it be that she can outgrow her father and Bruce? *raises finger to speak* Nah, wait and see on that one. Hey Jarissa! >> Bruce has to stand there, the whole event, and stew, because he's wondering what Eddie's going to do to the Museum. Which is nothing; Eddie's already doing it ... enjoying the spectacle and driving the Bat nuts. He would love that. Pity it's too simple to occur to him. Morning SR4! >> you just said Hugo had been hypnotising Blake for a while... Yes, but it's not important. I just mentioned it to Ben. If it becomes a serious plotpoint, I'll map it out in the text. But most of the stuff I toss out here in the message board and other little details I don't bother to upack are for our own fun. They're there for anybody that picks up on them, but anyone who doesn't, no harm done. Hi Sealgair! >> I loved her two-sided reaction. Much cackling ensued. Yep, same thing here. You should have heard me writing it. >> Greg & Talia *bites tongue* I want to drop a hint there, but I just can't. Heyho Bad Moon! >> Usually when people start musing along the lines of "what happened to the good old days" they go out and try to make the good ol' days again. They do indeed. Triple bonus score for zeroing in on that one. And I don't think Eddie is the type for a red porsche and blonde arm-candy. Why didn't Selina go around the doorman? She goes

The answer to every situation isn't giving someone
a fat lip, regardless of your ability to do so. In this
case, it's more effective to pummel more figuratively:
making a fuss, calling Oswald out front, which mortified
him, and getting the guy's ass chewed, made one kind of
point, where a claw to the neck/grab the hair/slam the
head into the door makes another. Another night, another
mood, she could have gone the other way. Cats are like
that.

Gothamite It's a good day for me today: Two shrieks of unfettered glee, all in a single afternoon. Shriek of Glee #1: Karen Traviss is writing a sequel to Hard Copy, her Star Wars license book. I have to wait almost a year for its release, le sigh, but a more deserving SW author existeth not. Shriek of Glee #2: THROTTLE YOU TIL YOU DIE! Oh, my, they have messed with Herself's property, they have, and now they're in for it! Thank you, Eddie, thank you! Sure, Bruce is still in trouble. S'okay. We can be angry at the man and rescue the man from himself all at the same time. Nice name for the kitten, by the bye. Dammit, Talia! Adrift in Space Meh. I dunno, Tri. I cant help the feeling this was a temporary flashback triggered by the Deamon flunkies. Hopefully Greg can snap her out of it. As to the rest... I dunno. What I really want to see at this point is the converstation that's going to happen on the MOMA roof after Bruce gets done thumping on Strange and Blake. |

It spite of it all, you persevere. Way to go! You have to really love cats to get Selina in this one. It makes perfect sense if you have a cat of course. Poor Bruce seems to be completely oblivious to the Oliver Stone level conspiracy theories that Selina is spinning regarding the MOMA opening. Of course he was pretty oblivious to the lack of wisdom inherent in placing a certain garment in his Trophy Case! Karma. What can you do? I enjoyed the Selina is still Catwoman without actually stealing anything aspects to this story. It's a shame Selina doesn't seem to notice it herself. Sigh! Oblivious is as oblivious does. What Dick said about those two comes to mind. Talia back in Chinatown and her old bad ideas. Obliviousness seems to be the theme all right. Lots of fun, Chris! Thanks! |

Gothamite Just when Talia finally moves on, she goes and falls back into old habits. I'm curios to see how this ends up ending. The conversation that Bruce wants to have with Selina should prove to be interesting. I also can't wait to see what Bruce does to Strange and Penguin. |

Hey gang. Jarissa, what can I say but yep, on all counts. *nods vigorously* You’re all quite perceptive on Talia. This isn’t a reset, this is backsliding. In short, now it gets interesting. Back in the old places, old situations among those same people, it’s easy to fall into those old patterns. But those moments in the plaza & in Chinatown, however fragile they might be, are still like losing your virginity. (Hold on tight for the double negative) : Talia can’t ever again be someone who has not take those first thoughts of a) accepting a reality she doesn’t like and b) beginning to bubble up a person separate from everyone’s expectations of her. As for the rest, especially Selina... we'll see. As has been noted that rooftop is going to be interesting. |
