I realize I have a reputation for being somewhat less-than-objective when it comes to the Green Goddess, but I can't help being excited about a story granting her top billing.

I think Ivy's issue with Harvey is less about needing him per se, and more about her perception that HE no longer needs HER. By allegedly going legitimate, by extention Harvey would be cutting ties to the other Rogues. Which, according to Ivy's skewed way of making everything about her, means he doesn't need to see her any longer. She knows she can get under his skin without inducing a rash, and the suggestion that Harvey - again, a man who spent time with her even when she WASN'T using pheromones on him, a rare thing indeed! - has finally moved on upsets her, I feel. Plus she's "the goddess", she needs to be worshipped, even loved, and darned if the closest thing she had to a worshipper just left without a forwarding address.

This in turn both angers her ("How dare he!") and, perhaps on some deeply buried level, depresses her ("Why does this always happen to me?" - I'm sure Ivy will never understand why people tend to avoid her, because Ivy doesn't even acknowledge, except again maybe deep within, that people don't like her). Anger and depression, btw, are not good feelings for a mental patient like her.

Which, in turn, is probably an additional reason for why she's gone to find Harley. It's not just about getting information without going to the scene of what turned out to be an even greater humiliation than the Greg Brady/Batgirl/Roxy brawl. It's about her being human, and every human has social interaction needs that no plant can provide. She needs to be assured that SOME things don't change, and as annoying as Harley can be at times, Harley genuinely LIKES Ivy. "See, silly man?" she can say. "Men may leave, but we sisters stick together!"

Good thing Harley stopped writing that self-help book, huh?

Speaking of Harley Quinn, I think she's got more than enough ability to be a criminal on her own, but I don't think she could be an A-list villainess. What drives her? What is her ambition? Can the woman who tripped every single alarm on the Wayne Manor property do this s--t on her own? I think she's always been identified as being "with" someone - whether Joker or Red or, briefly, Harvey. I don't see her as being a loner, and I don't see her as hiring her very own henchmen. And I think she'd lose status. Better to be the freelancing sidekick she is - I mean, in some ways she's basically the Robin of the underworld

Anyway, I think Ivy's going to show up on Harley's doorstep (a slightly ironic turn of events, since it's usually Quinn coming to Red for comfort) needing a crime spree or two to reassert herself and forget her other problems. Hopefully she won't see that romance Harl was working on at the end of the last chapter. That would make ANYONE vomit, but Ivy? "I'm trying to get my mind off that stupid man, and YOU are still thinking about the worthless turd who dumped you???" (Actually, if she could get Harley to stop writing, that would probably be a service to the community.)

Then again, considering Harley has been a bit depressed herself this month, I'm not sure she's going to be the cheer tonic she usually is.

As for Selina . . . when a prowl that used to be about marking one's territory and checking out the potential targets becomes "oh, look, there's where I bought the scones" and "We really do need to redecorate", then you have to start asking yourself.

Great chapter, with the promise of Ivy hijinks to come. Although I do hope, as the less-than-objective person that I am, that her recent status as Fate's Bitch was just a 2004 thing
