I said it before and I'll say it again: poor Eddie. What the heck did he do? (I know, I know, we'll find out later. But I had to ask.) |

I think it will be an unanimous cry upon reading
this chapter: "Oh, NO Eddie! What have you
done?!?"
Either way - Great job as usual, Chris. A satisfying read that leavs us wanting more! ![]() |

In this series, the question is not
"Eddie, what have you done?" but
"Eddie, what have you done NOW?"
Just finished getting completely up to dat on the cat tails and I love them. LOVE them. Needless to say, this is Hazel talking and not Tailia. "My Beloved is mine, and I am his . .

so what you're saying is, it's no longer
"Next in Cat-tales" it's "tune

much in one setting, it was three am when I finished made
work the next day kind of strange. And I guess what I
want to say is thanks. Your veiw of catty and co. are so
close to my memories of them that it makes them one of
the best reads in a long time.
Is their anyway we could take Frank Miller, the writers for both Batman Beyond and the animated series and just shoot them, PLEASE. Also didn't either Dick or Jason call Catwoman Mama Cat? Jesse |

Thank you redwulf, I don't think anything gives me
a bigger kick than hearing someone read many cat-tales in
a sitting.
Glad you could join our merry band of cat-fans. |

Redwulf,
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you on the Frank Miller and Batman Beyond thing. Quite how something drawn so hideously as DKR can be regarded as a work of art is beyond even a philistine like me. And as for Batman Beyond... the whole things an insult. But I really love the animated series Batman - hell I think its the best large or small screen representation of Gotham we have. What dont you like about it? Rob Imagine it.

Batman Animated series | #9

I liked it pretty good right up till the
Bruce/Babs/Dick thing started. I don't know I guess Babs
sleeping with Bruce was to much like if she was sleeping
with her father. Plus they kind of treated Dick like a
spoiled child and made it like all the problems were his
fault. At least that is the way it seemed to
me.

It hppned not long after Dick returned and was
living in Bludhaven. Then it was confirmed several
diffrent times on BB.
I am sorry of I come off as a jerk. It is just that Dick is the one Character from the DCU that I grew up reading that they haven't screwed up royaly, and now they seem to be trying to make up for lost time. Dick was Lucky during the reign of Frank Miller he was under the protection of Marv Wolfman. Marv being one of the truly talented writers to have worked at DC. Under Marv Dick was developed as a great character in his own right, while Miller tried to piss a way the entire rest of the batclan. Sorry I'll stop now, I have a tendancy to rant at times |

Re: Animated series | #12

LOL dont worry mate, you dont come off as a jerk at
all. We're all passionate in these parts about certain
characters and the way theyve been portrayed (for
instance do not and i mean DO NOT mention to Chris at any
time the words *whispers* Frank and Miller).
I remember once reading a fanfiction on FF.net about Twoface in which he supposedly raped Renee Montoya during the time he held her captive in NML. I found that story extremely difficult to swallow, and managed to write a positive (if slightly scolding) review! But it did make me very angry, and so I can sympathise whole heartedly with how you feel bout Wing. Anyway - I cant help feeling Ive hijacked Chris' thread... Just wanted to say that Awkard Silences is shaping up to be really REALLY good. The humour is there, the drama is there, even the suspense is there. It's all looking very rosy indeed, and I look forward to seeing how it pans out. What I wanna know (and Im sure everyone else does) just how did Eddie managed to get himself barred from the Berg from all the way over in Florida? Thats fairly impressive - I dont think even Jokers managed that before! Imagine it.

Re: re: animated series | #16

It was never implied in the original cartoon, to my
knowledge, only in Batman Beyond. The story was that
after the events of the original series, the rift between
Bruce and Dick grew greater, Dick left for good, Babs got
lonely, one thing led to another.
IMO, the original animated series was one the best representations of Batman. Batman Beyond, on the other hand, was just screwed up, in many, many ways. Let us have a moment of silence for writer Paul Dini's common sense. Just had to clarify that. Sorry for dragging this out... what was this thread about again? Oh, yeah, Awkward Pauses. Great first chapter, Chris. "My Beloved is mine, and I am his . .

Re: re: animated series | #17

I, on the other hand, had few problems with Batman
Beyond (though maybe this should go to another thread).
Bruce ending up a lonely, embittered old man who has
driven away everyone who cared about him? I could see
that. Taking on another Lost Boy? That, too. And I found
it much less of an insult to the Bat mythos than any of
the movies, the old tv show, anything that Miller ever
wrote, and a good deal of what happened in the comics
themselves in recent years. Not that BB didn't have it's
problems (April Moon, anybody?), but by and large I
enjoyed it and will continue to do so, despite the
sniping of its detractors.
And Awkward Pauses? Rocks. Plain and simple. I must know what Poor Eddie (I suspect that's going to be my personal nickname for him for a long time) has done to honk off (sorry |

Re: re: animated series | #18

I don't think they ever came out and said Babs and
Bruce slept together. There was that one episode where
he's looking at the women in his life and she's among
them. It did leave the impression that there had been a
romance. That's all I remember. There may have been some
allusion by old Barbara but I don't remember for sure.
The bad thing about this is a lot of people newer to the Bat mythos think it's a sweet idea about Babs and Barbara whereas I respond with Ewww, gross! because he had a more paternal/uncle relationship with her that a romance would violate not to mention him moving in on Nightwing's girl. That's the worst damage BB did--lots of young girls who don't know what a violation that is. I found myself watching Batman Beyond for a period there and enjoyed it as long as Bruce was onscreen because I'm afraid the old, bitter geezer totally stole the show for me. I never cared about Terry that much--he wasn't so much the new Batman or a semi-Robin as a body for Bruce and I think they were really dumb not to mine the old Rogues Gallery more than they did. |

Re: re: animated series | #19

I agree Hecate, it was never said, only implied for
the 'silly ones' as I like to think of them, to jump to
wild conclusions. In addition to that scene you mention,
there was one other, with Barbara telling Terry about old
times, that she and Bruce had such a clicking rhythm in
work and what about outside of it - that is WIDE OPEN for
the listener to take away whatever they wish.
The thing that separates Batman Beyond from the early series for me is - this was a kiddie show. Very strong influence from the Superman 'toon, dressed up in a bat costume. The new villains were all cookie-cutter one-dimensional, or thinly disguised variations on classic bat villains. And the only hook it had going for it was when it gave you a bit of info on "what ever became of" the characters from the contemporary bat timeline. |

Re: re: animated series | #20

In the scene with old Barbara and Terry, I seem to
remember Terry saying, in shock, "You and
BRUCE?" and Barbara giving him a sly smile. They
clearly wanted to let people think that there had been a
romantic relationship. At least that's the way I remember
it.
Anyway. Beyond was bad enough that it made me angry at times, yet I watched it every Saturday, and I still check out the fanfiction now and then. "My Beloved is mine, and I am his . .
."
