Posts: 289 10/19/09 10:18	Eh, I know some fanfics that take half a year to update, and others that haven't updated in years. So, in comparison, a couple months isn't too bad. Besides, real life can really put a cramp on things. Jenna seemed to be the major focal point of this chapter, even managing to put Harley and her still-creepy alternate Joker personality on the sidelines. Jenna comes out as even more of a sad and obsessive groupie than we may have realized, going to any lengths for a shallow attempt at validation. And the Rogues (and Batman) are increasingly willing to admit it: even to Jenna's face. Gotta love that whole "Rogues stand with their own" thing! The ending was quite the cliffhanger. Makes you wonder if Ivy's really going to make Jenna go through with it, and whether there'll be any unforeseen consequences. Can't wait for the next chapter, no matter how long it takes.

So Pammy did take the easy route in the end, yet she didn't go all the way back to square one. She exercised restraint. That's progress. She said "please." That's progress. She recognized that the best way to punish Jenna was to ignore her entirely, and convince all the other Rogues to do the same. Progress again. She did her research, found a legal way to release Harley into her care, and did it. Without any prompting from anyone else. I'm sensing a theme here. A theme that's been building throughout this entire story, but is especially evident here. She convinces the Rogues to avoid bringing up the night Mistah J got hacked up for Harley's sake. Not for her, though it definitely benefits Pammy: for Harley. And, as Eddie notes, she is intense and serious, not hysterical. P-word, again. I like Dr. Bart's line here: Spoiler [+] "She's taught you how to care for another human being, Pamela. I think trying to keep Harleen sane has kept you sane. Which means the sooner she's living under your roof, the better off you - and perhaps the city of Gotham - will be." That is SO true. And yet, Pammy doesn't realize it yet. Ah well. Still taking baby steps, I guess. But she won't be able to stay in denial for long. Spoiler [+] Harley seems to have recovered remarkably quickly. One wonders if Mistah J's trying to pull off one last joke, or whether all that deliberate and more frequent phermone dosing had an accelerated "Ozzy effect." Either way, Pammy clearly wants her best friend back (and maybe something more). And finally: OMG. The new Echo is revealed. I vaguely remembered Eddie's luck in this AU, but to see this... wow. Unbelievable. The funny thing is, I can see it. Under the guise of anonymity, the new Echo doesn't have the pressures of "living up to the name" or facing the infamy of screwing up just about everything. As Echo, she can start with a brand new slate, and still have someone to protect her. Can't wait until the last chapter, and to see how everything wraps up!
