So many characters are being faced with change in this chapter. I could go in depth about how Talia's a perfect example, but it basically boils down to "things are changing, and she doesn't know what to do". Let's move on to more interesting characters:

As much as Batman would hate to admit it, Joker's death has changed things (for the better). As Selina noted, he wouldn't even think of "rewarding" her for putting up with all the crap that's come up lately if Laughing Boy was still around and kicking. Mind you, Aquaman just had to pop up and ruin things--and I'm eager to see how similar and how different this job will be, compared to the mainstream Cat-Tales.

Batman's analysis of the Rydbergii/Jenna's situation is generally spot-on: Pammy's habit of wearing those rose-tinted lenses would inevitably:
a) perpetuate the booming business success of Jenna's, while its vulnerability to electronic surveillance would help maintain the safety of the customers (civilian and criminal), which would
b) force Pammy to resume her previous life of crime, thereby
c) increasing the chances of Ozzy getting over the greening, which would
d) be followed by his taking back his business, restoring the Lounge, and getting things back to the way they were.
The only problem is that this entire scenario hinges on Pammy's default stance of (I'm the Goddess) denial, which is no longer a sure thing. More and more, she's coming to realise that going (semi-) legit has changed things, and she can't fall back on her old habits. Joker's death have changed things for Gotham, but particularly for Harley, and Pammy can't rely on her "no Joker equals more Pammy and Harley" dreams. Things are evolving, and she'll have to evolve too.

Hope Batman's enjoying his well-deserved break, because there's change on the horizon... and it's a doozy!

One of the main reasons I enjoy AUs so much is that they illustrate the consequences that could occur if a different choice was made or a different factor was (or was not) in play. As readers may recall, mainstream Penguin refused to give King Snake the secret of the "Flehmen" trigger because he regarded him as one of his competitors. It is therefore fitting that, with Penguin incapacitated, King Snake becomes Hugo's patron.

I disagree with his comments, though: he does respond to flattery. The only reason he funded Hugo's scheme was because Hugo was smart enough to put some ass-kissing and sycophantic compliments into his sales pitch. The only reason he left Jenna's is because he did not receive the attention that comes with civilians being scared of him and his organisation.

Pammy's also facing the consequences, or reaping the rewards, that comes with shedding a little bit of ego. Although her knee-jerk reaction to Matt was the self-centered Pammy we've all come to expect in more than one universe, she eventually sat down and listened (to reality, if nothing else). And what did she get out of it? Enough money to prop up the Lounge until it's back on its feet and one more mystery item in exchange for suffering Matt's presence in the Lounge and at Harley's next Karaoke Night (which won't be any time soon). From what we know, this sounds like a pretty good deal. I wonder what this "condition" is, though...

And, in one of the weirdest examples of Fate's long memory, Eddie and Talia couldn't escape the consequences of their one-night stand. Which has seriously distrubed Bruce, several readers, and, most importantly, Selina. Eddie would be proud to know that I have some questions running through my head as a result: does this mean that Eddie will eventually take Talia far, far away from Gotham? If so, will Batman create a protocol to facilitate this move? And what will Selina do once the shock and horror wears off?
