When was the Last Time you Read a Comic Book? |

Wasn't sure if I should put this in the Iceburg or here. Okay, the title is self-explanatory, but here's why I need to know: as part of my independent
study I'm using Cat-Tales as an example, and I mention that Chris has not read comics for a while as part of my argument. I'm pretty sure she's
mentioned that somewhere here, and it got me thinking when was the last time others here have read comics? Please, please answer this truthfully. I plan on
citing this thread, and will be presenting this paper at Comic-Con as part of the Comics as Arts Conference, so I don't want to make a complete ass out of
myself.
Damon Runyon once said, "Ninety-five percent of sports tradition is fiction. Lies, if you like. But harmless. Who the hell cares if the facts get
twisted?"

Last time I read one was a week ago maybe? Sorry...the days blur together after about three or four. I've recently discovered that Witchblade is very
interesting and I started reading Tangent: Superman's Reign at issue 10 because I had spoken (online) with the inker, Julio Ferreira, and he gave me
permission to colour the inks...so...I kinda needed colour reference for the new characters and then I picked up issue 11, too, for grins and plan on getting
12 if my comic shop ever gets it. Heh.
I started reading in college (about 6 years ago?) with Marvel (Spiderman, X-men, and Wolverine, specifically) and then branched very hesitantly into DC with Batman. I was hesitant b/c that's such an old line and I knew I could spend way more money on it than I could really afford. But after college, I lost my handy comic shop and stopped reading. Cat-tales was my lifeline! along with all the DC books, movies, an non-comics I could get my hands on. When I did read comics, it was the CVs that I bought from Barnes and Noble or other bookstores. This new interest in reading singles comes from finding a comic shop in town and from interacting with the artists. Except for Witchblade (and maybe Green Lantern, if I can figure out where to start with that) I buy the books for the art much more so than for the writing. In fact, that's why I picked up my first issue of Witchblade--the art--but the story sucked me in. Ha ha! Also, I read a lot of the really old stories. I feel like I have to get caught up. As for current comics, I read pretty much just Witchblade now. "Always the detective."

It depends on your definition of a comic book - if you mean recent - you are looking at 10 years ago. But within the last week I was reading Tintin for the
first time - I grew up with Asterix and Obelix, not Tintin, so my husband is educating me

These days, I'm reading pretty much just Tiny Titans and Green Lantern. The Superman books lost me when they trotted out the "Lois
Lane's family makes Superman's life miserable" card again, the Batman books remain unreadable, Flash Gordon doesn't come out on any
kind of dependable schedule, and most everything else I've cut for financial reasons. The Michigan economy couldn't be worse right now, and I've
had to tighten my purchases accordingly. So I'm sticking to the stuff I like the best and letting everything else go.
That said, I did pick up Patrick the Wolf Boy at last week's Motor City Con, and I'm liking that a lot. It's a welcome shot of levity at a time when most comics could really use a strong injection thereof. |

You can add Batman and the Outsiders to Witchblade as far as comics that I'm seriously reading. I picked up the first CV (for the recent run) and,
although I'm still not sure what's going on or why (which, I realise, means that it could turn very bad once I catch up) I'm enjoying it for the
moment, at least. Also picked up the free Green Lantern comic and wow! they explain all the colours! Now I'm doubly interested in getting that one...as
soon as I figure out where to start. Ha!

The war of light and the darkest night are gonna be great for the Green Lanterns, just have no idea what they'll do once it's over.
I'm also reading Star Wars Legacy, pretty awesome extended timeline where the the wishy washiness of the Skywalkers is making the universe suffer :D. Just started reading the relaunched Deadpool line, yellow boxes FTW! |
