Well, he had me fooled, but I guess that's why I don't get the job as 'The World's Greatest Detective'... or his better half. I have to kick myself in retrospect as Tim was right about the key clue and I know enough about these things to know better. Well done, Chris, for fooling me.

Poor Selina - Welcome to Aquaman's world, Kitten. A world where you can travel by shark-surfing and whales carry sonic cannon and troop insertion pods. Still, at least she's okay, if bedraggled (and there is nothing guaranteed to leave a cat desperately trying to hoist up its dignity quite like being wet ).

This was a very good, if shorter chapter that focused on the 'white' side of the board getting their pieces in place. It looks like the big showdown is only a two chapters away at most and it will be a fairly major production with the entire armed forces of Atlantis about to lay on the whupass. However, I still think that Tim is the joker in the pack (no offence intended). After all, Ra's doesn't know he is there and this might turn out to be a critical weapon in the heroes' arsenal.



Well done for providing an interesting, challenging and creative story, Chris. It's these little red herrings and character details that keeps a reader coming back again and again. If the reader is involved in the story too, then you are sure of your audience.

P.S.: I love the character of Valerina. Her 'outsiders' view of Batman and Aquaman's relationship is wonderful as is her perception of the world of government and diplomacy. It is interesting that she should see Batman as being similar to a visiting general or ambassador because (and I think that Alfred and, ironically, Ra's are the only other ones to explicity state this), Bruce is a prince of the modern world, with many of the powers and responsibilities of a medieval monarch. And, like such a man, he makes it his personal business to defend his kingdom. ("Grunt")

Now, that is more than worth the wait and the shorter chapter last time!

Okay, first thing that leaps to mind is this: Ubu is claustrophobic! His reactions are just right. I advice Arthur to simply leave him in a max security cell and record all he says. I guarantee that he'll be babbling Ra's plans within a few hours. It isn't even "torture" per se.

I loved Selina in this. You really have a handle on her psychology and mindset. I particularly liked how she handled an interrogation. I wonder what would have happened if those Atlantean MPs hadn't arrived at that moment. I have a feeling that Selina was going to try to poke Ubu again to see what his denials might tell her.

Selina's impressions of Atlantis were in-character too. I do like how she still sees everything through a cat-burglar's eyes. I just wonder if she realises that she and Valerina are more alike in more ways than one. For example, I suspect that she is the sane one who Arthur relies upon as the 'laugh test' for any idea. If she finds a diplomatic way of saying she likes an idea, it is a bad idea. That is more-or-less Selina's role when it comes to strategies.

Bruce is right that Ra's never plans for failure. Look at the current events at Camp DEMON!Fish:

Something tells me that he is in for a rude awakening. The only question is just how bad will have things gotten in Ra's base before Bruce and Selina arrive to deliver the coup de grace? I have to agree with Bruce that it is the only way to stop a bloodbath and massively increases the chances of rescuing all the hostages intact.

This is a nice little story, Chris. I'm enjoying you using Arthur instead of Clark in a team-up. He has his own unique way of doing things. I'm looking forward to the climax, which I suspect is only a chapter or two away at the most.
