That said, I have enjoyed others more. The reason is simple. History.

I'm not a purist. Not in any sense. I liked the upgrade, I did not weep for the differences, and I must have burst out laughing at least a dozen times when i recognized the famous lines and gestures.

But the entire movie is based around a time travel plot. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from all the Enterprise episodes requiring time travel.

That alone is enough to knock it down a peg for me.

It's always difficult to go from a long running series to a movie. How to make it feel like a movie and not a long episode. in that, Star Trek did well.

To do a prequel, decades after the original is harder still. Find the right crew, the right actors, write a history that won't horrify anyone, while at the same time making sure that you don't need to have a lifelong love of the series to understand it. in that, Star Trek did very well.

Let me be clear, the action was intense, the banter was fun, the pace was thrilling and the little details were endearing and much beloved by this particular fan. My only mark against the movie was the Star-Trek-Stigma that Enterprise forever gave me by putting Time Travel into the plot.

To be honest, you could write the same damn movie, without the time travel, by changing maybe two or three lines and irrelevant character points in the villain.

Maybe that's just me alone. It may very well be just my own problem. But for something like this, dealing with a world that has touched so many people, and meant so many different things to varying degrees, who the heck knows what will set one fan off and make another cheer?
