Meow! This is the chapter I've been waiting for since the story started. And I wasn't disappointed. Very hilarious beginning. Poor Nolan. How was he supposed to know what was going on? lol However, I have no sympathy for the fight coreographer. If he doesn't know acting gold when he sees it and/or can't throw out the script when they just recorded something better, then he needs a new job! Ha! Totally gripping! I can't wait for the next chapter. ^_^ Welcome to a world without rules! |

A couple new things have occured to me:
Not that I REALLY care, but these are the trains of thought that my mind follows in between chapters. It's still a good read, regardless of whether you have perfect explanations or not. ^__^ Welcome to a world without rules! |

DorothyTRose wrote:The need for Batman to have a secret base in which he parks his various bat-vehicles is fairly obvious. The fact that it's a cave may have leaked out because of sidekicks or JLA members making references to it where others could hear them. I don't know if he's brought outsiders into the cave in Cat-Tales continuity, but it happens now and then in most versions of Batman, usually with the visitor being blindfolded or unconscious when entering and leaving. |

I was running under the assumption that by this stage of the game (I gather Chris is writing her Tales in a nebulous, non-defined period of Batman's life,
but it's obvious everyone has been at their game for YEARS and most of the iconic events of the comics, Jason's and Steph's deaths, Bane's
breaking the bat and Azrael, Dick becoming Nightwing and Tim becoming Robin, Barbara's paralysis and becoming Oracle and Cass taking the Batgirl mantle,
have all already happened) certain elements of the Bat-mythos are common knowledge to a well-researched public - that he has various vehicles, that
Gotham's other themed vigilantes are allied with him, that he has a lair or cave (where else would a bat-man live?) of some kind.
I know the Batcave doesn't appear in TDK, nor any giant crane fight scenes. The movie being made in C&B isn't exactly TDK...I see it as a kind of mesh of Burton's Batman and Nolan's, though more literally Nolan's. Given this is a world where Batman is real, and most of the details of his life - his identity as Bruce and his reasons for fighting - are unknown, it's impossible for it to be the same film, it'd be something heavily mythologised, with an invented secret-identity for Batman, or none at all. Leaving it ambiguous gives me some freedom to play with it without needing to stick to Real-Life-Canon =) This is a bit of a late response, but someone earlier congratulated me for getting Catwoman's reactions right - I owe at least half of that to Chris, who's given me feedback on all of the chapters so far before they've been released, and especially brought me into line on how to properly characterise Cat-Tales-verse Catwoman ^_^ without that input, this wouldn't be the same story it is by any means...kudos! |

Hmm.
On the one hand, Batman failed to capture Joker. He failed to stop what he might regard as a farce at best and a reckless, dangerous stunt at worst. And he failed to avoid getting dragged into some charade where he had to "act" out a fight scene. All right, "failed" might be a bit harsh for the last point, but you see my point. On the other hand, he failed to capture Scarecrow because he was doing legitimate research. His standard Rogue protocol, intimidation and physical violence, will have likely failed spectacularly. He failed to counter Dracula. And he failed to avoid looking like the next candidate for a 4x4 cell in Uncle Jerry's House o' Fun. One might wonder which he regards as the greater disappointment. I have to give kudos for the Count's reaction to how the entertainment industry has treated him over the many, many years. Sometimes, one just has to laugh at the absurd. And some of the stuff that's out there is definitely absurd. So far, Batman's hasn't been able to deal with the TDK movie situation. He hasn't been able to take down Joker. And he definitely hasn't been able to take down Dracula, his flunky (sorry, Crane, but that's what you are right now), or his posse of one (Pammy, don't get pissy at me. Get pissy at the Man who turned the Goddess into a Slave). He's either too busy to effectively deal with any one situation (mainly because of the latter) or has been playing someone else's game (again, the latter). It's time for him to change the rules and make everyone else play his game--even if it means getting help, or thinking about magic for more than a nanosecond without the kneejerk "NO"--or he's gonna be screwed beyond the point of no return. |

Heroes, just like villains, have their ups and their downs. Nobody wins all the time; it'd be a boring story if they did! We're seeing Bruce try
familiar tactics on an unfamiliar enemy; as RandomEquinox said, he's going to have to change his game plan to win this one. The most fun thing about
writing this story to me has been writing the behind-the-scenes chess game between Bat and Bat. Especially since the game has more than two players...
There's plenty of twists and turns to come =) As for Pammy, Joker and Harley, stay tuned for the next chapter - 'Changes'! Coming soon to a darkened theatre near you....vlah ah ah ahhh.... |

Wow.
Do you ever get the feeling that Ra's stole a lot of his material from Drac? And now, since I still can't remember how to use spoiler fonts, I'll be doing it the old-fashioned way: I'm trying to decide which is worse - the fact that the Plague has spread to the native rat populations, or the fact that the Joker has just received his first bite. ("Don't I make a beautiful Bride? A-HAHAHA!!!) I find myself wondering, in the meantime, just what becoming a Bride of Dracula (or a Bride-in-training, anyway) does to you in terms of personality. The Brides I remember from the novel didn't have much of a personality, were subservient to the Count, and called each other "sister". So I wonder how much of the old Ivy and Harley have survived their initial transformation. Did Harley seek Joker out because she's in love with him and wants to turn him, or did he just seem like a prime candidate and easy prey? And at the risk of sounding painfully predictable to those who know me, was Ivy's attack on Harley strictly an "I'm hungry, you'll do" situation, or something more - possessive? (I flashed back immediately to my college course on Victorian literature, where Dracula biting his victims was described as a metaphor for . . . well, you know.) Speaking of which, that moment when the plants started reacting to Ivy's transformation? Yikes! "Feed me, Seymour, feed me NOW!" As for Selina, well, cats everywhere are saying in that special language of theirs, "WTF?" ;) Each new chapter brings more excitement. My only concern is . . . this can't possible end before Halloween. Can it? (I'm thinking a chapter a day for the next seven days sounds mighty fine.)
Sincerely, Allaine

Last time, I said that Batman needs to make one of those famous plans or Protocols, even if it means getting help. Even if it means getting help from a
magical source. I'm pleased to see that Batman did just that in this chapter, after a good night's sleep (guess all those 6-8 hours of sleep advocates
are on to something). It's good to see how much of a man he is that he didn't let "My City, My Way" PsychoBat override (most of) his common
sense.
I say "most of", because a) his Magic = Bad position is still in play, and b) it seems that Etrigan isn't the only one that shares certain character traits with the Dark Knight. Jason is just as stubborn as Batman can be, whether trying to get things done "his way", or going to ridiculously convoluted lengths to provide help just because someone wouldn't play by "his rules". If Selina wasn't around to sidestep that male equivalent of a hissy fit and cut to the chase, who knows how long they'd be at it? The "Knights of the Round Table" thing was an interesting image by itself, but when coupled with Jason Blood's impromptu appearance, it seemed all the more appropriate. I particularly enjoyed the imaginative and original origin story of Dracula, the new interpretation on how he acquired his vampirism, and how he met Jason. One wonders if we'll get to see him and Etrigan assist in Batman's takedown. In any case, it looks like Team Bat is starting to lay the foundations for a better Dracula Protocol 2.0. Problem is, Selina's got one of her own. Will they choose one over the other, or will both go into play simultaneously? If the latter, will the two plans step on each other's toes? And will either be able to assauge Selina's fears by including some steps on what to do with the Count if they actually manage to take him down? |

I should apologise for not being able to make the Halloween deadline as scheduled; work issues have prevented me from finishing the story as quickly as I'd
hoped. However, rest assured, the grand finale is drawing near - only three chapters left!
Thank you for your patience, everyone, I know this has ballooned into somewhat of an epic ^^;; |

WEll, I enjoyed chapter 10. As for Al Ghul: "With Enemies Like This, Who Needs Friends?"
Hmmm, interesting problem Batman has. Of course, seeing as how Dracula won't STAY dead, is it really killing him? As for the containment chamber idea: Equipment breaks down. Besides, Dracula might prefer to be temporarily dead rather then undead in a cell like that. Or, of course, we get a scene like this. "I'm sorry, Master Bruce. I was just mopping the cave when he managed to grab the mop from me, break the mop handle, and stab himself with it." "I understand, Alfred." -later- "Mopping and just accidently got too close to the cell? Right...." "I don't know what you're insinuating, mistress Selina." "It's ok, Alfred... I'd do anything to protect him, also." "The confidence is much appreciated, but I still don't know what you mean." "Of course, Alfred. -wink-" |

Nodrogs wrote:Yes! And Batman knows it, elsewise, he wouldn't have a problem with killing Ra's. But I must say, it occured to me, too, that someone else could kill him. Batman can't? That's okay. Let's get, oh, Huntress, or how about Zatana, mm? Or maybe one of the Rogues wouldn't mind helping out. Harvey, maybe? Wait! No. He'd have to flip a coin and there's a 50% chance it would turn up unscarred. lol. I must say, though, I'm glad this isn't the last chapter after all. lol. I certainly don't mind waiting for more. Welcome to a world without rules! |

I'm very sorry for the delay! I've been posted at a school where I have no computer access and haven't been able to work on the next chapter until
now.
That, and the chapter became something of a ...novel. It'll keep folks busy reading it at least ^.^ Offhand, I apologise if anyone found the science behind Jonathan's scheme to have holes in it. I did what research I could to make it seem plausible, but figured that...well, in a world where bathing in random chemicals can turn one into an insane clown, give one immunity to poisons and pseudo-psychic control over plants, force one to live at subzero temperatures or turn one into a gigantic mass of mutating shapeshifting organic clay...I could be forgiven some unrealistically-behaved bacteria ^.^ |
