So I find myself in a quandary, because a serial dupe has brought something absolutely wonderful into my life. It seems my friend, the self-admitted mark, was getting some Chinese take-out. The nice lady behind the counter-the way his gulling stories usually begin: nice lady, nice salesgirl, nice canvaser. They're not all redheads, but they're all shelas-nice lady behind counter suggested he try their special. He thought it was an appetizer, so he got it on top of his original order. But turns out it's a very large entrée. (There was something else about her giving him a taste of something, and he got that too, I think. The story gets complicated, and those details aren't important. Anyway, fast forwarding to the checkout…)
It apparently doesn't dawn on him that he's paying three times what he intended to, until he notices he's got food for at least two extra people. So he shows up at my door, giving away this fantastic pineapple shrimp with fried rice and pine nuts. It's now my favorite thing on their menu.
My point?
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. Most of the time, being an easy sell is really not a good thing, but now and then…
