This Iron Man n00b finally got to see Iron Man last night. Even after two weeks, the theatre was pretty packed. I shudder to think what the crowds'll
be like for The Dark Knight. Anyways...
First, let's get the quibbles out of the way. I see where Chris was getting at regarding the sex scene: I'd choose the words "rubber ball",
but "frenzied" works, too. Second, I'd read an article where the actor who played "Raza" regarded that character as a
three-dimensional individual, and tried to bring some humanity into him. To be honest, I'm not convinced. Unless you equate "human" with
"can bleed/get burned/get killed", there was no real development of that character. And lines like "A man with a dozen [Iron Man suits] can
rule all of Asia" don't help (not to mention it shows just how limited this guy's scope and vision is). If he didn't get (a lot of) help (and
those who saw the film know the source of that help), he'd just be a two-bit D-list threat. Nothing more.
Now for the good stuff. The plot flowed well, and had lots of fun action without being a disgusting orgy of special effects and explosions. All the main
characters were well casted, and had a reasonable amount of time to introduce them and give a taste of who they are. I had heard a rumor that the evolution of
Jeff Bridges's character was rushed. Having seen this movie, I have to disagree: while the mentor relationship between Obadiah with Tony was established,
I didn't feel it was layered on that thick. Consequently, it was easy to peel away the layers to get to the "real" Obadiah.
Finally, yes, I saw the Easter Egg. Nice. Not a guarantee that I'll see anything that might come out of it, but nice, nonetheless.
