Posts: 1182 11/19/07 04:41	Tags : None Iron Man, IMHO, is the Marvel Batman. He's a regular, non-powered human, though absolutely brilliant, and disgustingly rich. But he's still a mortal man beneath his suit of armor. Iron Man isn't the most popular character in the Marvel-verse these days. In fact, after the Civil War saga, he's about as popular among fans as the Miller-Catwoman is around here. Nonetheless, I love Iron Man both as a character, and as a premise. Thus, I am on the edge of my seat with regard to the new Iron Man movie coming soon. Enough so, that I've got my fingers crossed that this isn't going to be another HULK. Enough so, in fact, to inspire me some. Obviously I haven't seen the movie. Trust me. ;) I'm too "in the moment" from posting more thoughts about it, but they got it right IMO. If you know nothing of Iron Man, you'll like it. If you are an Iron Man fan, you'll love it. (And some nice 'in' references too! During an awards ceremony scene, you can hear an instrumental version of the '60s Iron Man cartoon theme. I won't spoil any more.)

Posts: 1182 05/01/08 23:41	Ahhh, back now. Oh, that feels better. Been holding my breath for three days now. So, first of all: All is well. This is NOT another Hulk, way past Daredevil, maybe not quite a Spiderman 2, but definitely a + Fantastic Four. Second fear. This is not an effects extravaganza. Oh don't get me wrong the effects are kick-ass, but it doesn't rely on them. Third, the movie doesn't drag in the middle like some superhero films. I mean, the pace slows between the two/Three major battles, but it's like the Batman Begins montage. Which brings me to the big part of the film. The star of the film, is most especially, the suit. It is Iron Man's drawcard. Spiderman made a big deal of the webswinging, Batman Begins focused on the Batsuit and the Batmobile, Fantastic Four on their powers and how they use them. Iron Man is about the suit. It's... evolution. And it is quite a process, lemme tell ya. The Iron Monger; well, the way that suit came about was in character, and it sort of set the scene for the next movie. And having seen it, I am almost positive there will be more of them. I enjoyed it big time, it was most satisfying. Leaving me with only one point. Ussentinel: I didn't stay past the end of the credits. Could you messenger me some idea of what I missed?

Posts: 261 05/03/08 20:21 Gothamite	I was super impressed by Iron Man. After hearing assuring words here and from critics like Rotten Tomatoes, I went and saw it with a positive outlook. I have a very casual knowledge of the mythos and character, but everything looked really great. There weren't too many rough spots, and things were really spot on. I won't spoil anything, but staying past the credits was well worth it.

RBJr was brilliant was Tony and he's really going to shine in the sequel where Tony will have to deal with the demon in the bottle. As far as the bit after the credits... i was wholly disappointed. An Avengers movie is totally dependent on having the perfect Captain America, of the Steve Rogers variety. Good luck with that. Hate to say it but when it comes to super groups the JLA is tops in my book and I know there's no way that would work in movie form.

Posts: 796 05/06/08 15:58	Well, I saw this Sunday as an Iron Man virgin, and I found it amazingly watchable. One caveat: I am wearing pink for a few days, I'm eating bon bons and got a manicure. From time to time I hum a few bars of "I feel pretty." This is necessary because that is one hell of a testosterone flick. It's not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. Just have to rebalance the scales. Awesome cast without a weak spot, particularly Jeff Bridges. Personal preference, there was nothing really challenging in Pepper and it would have been nice to see someone less recognizable than Gweneth. As long as I'm on the subject, while the rest of the film was flawless, I thought the when-boy-meets-girl aspects seemed like those fanfics by writers who have obviously never been laid. The frenzied sex at the beginning looked like two people who'd been building up the tension for months or years, not two people who only met ten minutes ago, and Pepper's reaction to the dance was up there with Vicky Vale's jealous rage because she saw Bruce talking to a female guest at a party he was hosting. I know the comic world is rooted in little boys that think girls are icky, but come on. Anyway, minor quibble. Fun film. Spoiler reply to ichigenka on final scene [+] I could certainly be wrong, but I really didn't interpret the extra scene as declaring their intention to make an Avengers movie. It looked more like: "Ultimate series drew Fury like Samuel L Jackson, so here, fanboys, go crazy!" --Chris Dee Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Add in the fact that Iron Man, Hulk and the 2010 Captain America movie are all being done by the same studio (Marvel, not having any corporate attachment to a studio, tends to scatter their licenses around to whoever wants to make something,) and I think they're trying.
