He said he'd be creating them. Presumably if he were the crimelord Selina supposedly is, then all those crimes that the assorted junior rogues and other
crooks are bringing to her at the vault would be coming to him instead. Being Eddie, he'd have to create riddles for them all.

It's always good to see Selina interacting with Eddie and Dick. They always seem to have interesting conversations.
I found it interestng that Sly found it more comfortable being around 2 rogues in a rouge hideout as opossed only 1 rogue. Most people would find multiple rogues in a single room more unnerving than having only 1 and even then 1 is 1 too many for most people. Spoilers (sorry I don't know how to use the spoiler tag) * * * * * * * * * So Lex was the guy in the limo. My guess is that he wants to use Selina to try and get his company. * * * * * * * * * * * * End Spoilers |

I liked this chapter - for the reasons listed above, for the twist, and most of all [and this goes through the entire series you wrote] that Bruce is shown to
be a genius plus level intellect, with mental problems, not a ravening brute who gets lucky.
I also loved that he didn't just focus on his own and Superman's foes, but others, such as Sivanna, usually a foe of Captain Marvel. Could we see the Big Red Cheese in this story? :-) Shows Batman is aware he lives in a larger universe, something I appreciate in any story. All too often, writers don't take it into account. Good job so far! |

I'm another one of those technology-challenged people who don't know how to put spoiler spaces in, so...
SPOILER!! - - - - - - - Lex is back! I had been wondering if he'd ever recover from the power overload several stories ago. He's the sort of villian I expect to recover from anything, but Cattails has proven to be far more open to permenant change than anything in the Post, so I couldn't be sure he wasn't officially a vegetable. I'm glad to see he's returned as I've always thought he makes a wonderful balance to Superman's straight-forward approach to life. But he's not in Superman terrirory - he's in Bat territory at the moment. A far more risky endevor for him, I would imagine. Superman can brazen through anything Lex can throw at him, but Batman can outsmart him, in my opinion. I noticed a few reviewers were thinking that Lex was approaching Selina with the intention of using her to get at Bruce and/or Wayne Enterprises, but I must admit that this wasn't my first thought about his motives. I assumed he was approaching her because, as the new "Queen of the Underworld", Selina is now possibly the top rouge in Gotham and a potential buisness partner. Or a potential kink in his plans. The Joker is probably still concidered Batman's top enemy, but with her new title, Selina might be concidered a close second and someone that Lex could conceivably work with. He might be either offering to cut her in on his latest brilliant plan or simply enacting a rouge version of the 'hey, I'm in town and doing something so make sure not to be downtown doing your own thing tomorrow'. We'll have to wait for the next chapter to really know, I suppose. What's interesting to me is the relationally calmer aspect of this story so far. I was totally expecting Bruce and Selina to spend lots of time wrestling back and forth over Selina's role in the newly re-orgainized crime world (insert lots of angst), but instead Selina gained some perspective and was willing to immediatly adjust her behavior in order to accomidate the man she loved. How mature of her. This chapter didn't delve into that issue much at all, except possibly setting up the scene where Selina doesn't feel she can make that change and now will have to tell Bruce about it... or possibly just have him remain in the dark until it's all over, since it doesn't seem he'll be available for a confession anytime soon. I have to wonder if Lex is behind the SuperBot - with the intention of making Gotham a little bit less Bat-filled... Wonderfully written, as always! Sorry about the rambling here, but this chapter just left me with all sorts of speculative ideas and they seem to all just sort of gush out of my fingertips onto the screen. Oh well. |

Hi all! Quick round of replies because I have no idea when I'll get a chance again.
Nice insight on Eddie, Ben. He is definitely happiest playing to an audience that gets him, on the page that is Selina. Off the page, it's you and others here who greet his appearances with such knowing interest. "as close to sane that most Rogue Alphas can hope to get" goes in the database-CLICK-thank you. "also pretty much the epitome of the 'weasel' personality type" ROFL - and that made me spit coffee, but it's true. We won't tell him you said it though, he's so happy about the first part. BTW, I like windex wipes for my monitor, what do you use? Dick Greyson/Nightwing - I just love him. He's not an Everyman exactly, but he is by Bat Family standards. He and Tim pass the normalcy back and forth. There's really only enough for one, and now that Dick is over a lot of the 'be my own man' baggage and Tim is moving into the most trying phase of adolescence, Dick gets lionshare of normal. Some think that's boring, but I think it's like anything else, it all comes down to knowing how to use it. "slightly crazy and always annoying little brother who she still loves to bits, even when he exasperates her" -- yeah that works. Shorter and snappier than what I said. Moving along… Ichigenka, I agree completely about the Tylenol capsule. In addition to being an eyesore, it chafed. I think the others have answered karanne's question, but just for completion: what Nathan said. As King of the Underworld, there would be a shitload of crimes under Eddie's aegis and, being Eddie, he'd want to leave Bats a riddle for each and every one. There is no significance to the number, he's speaking informally and made up a number to mean "a lot." Thanks Nathan and Abaddon for stepping up. Meow. Those who need help with spoiler tags, here is the message explaining how Interesting observation, Fett. Apart from the normalcy of the scene when Sly saw Eddie was there ("Oh, she's got a friend over for lunch"), Sly's comfort level might also have something to do with his job. At the Iceberg, he's used to rogues en masse. Batfan7, I think you're onto something. It is very hard to keep Lex Luthor down. Poor Clark. I won't say more and ruin the fun of everyone's speculating. I will just observe what I have on countless stories before: some of you are right on the green. Some of you are in the tall grass. But don't despair, tall grass people, you may find the ball yet and then it's a game. Then again, you may find the wrong ball, that one lost by a vacationing dentist in 1994. I leave you now to speculate if the above is a Nigma-worthy clue, or just me being weird. Ciaomeow

I must agree with Selina's philosophy: keeping the various facets of your life in balance is definitely important, and it's clearly a major reason why
she leads a (slightly more) sane life compared to other people (rogue, costumed, or otherwise). While some examples of those other people (Joker? Harley?
Developments in Arkham?) were absent in this episode, I felt well compensated by the presence of a certain riddling rogue.
My sympathies go to Eddie. It's damn frustrating when you can't completely express your wit, offer your full insights and perspectives, or just present the totality of who you are when you're surrounded by those who can't or won't appreciate it. Therefore, you do tend to truly care about and cherish those special, unique individuals who do "get it", and it shows in your dealings with those people. The conversations between Eddie and Selina as they were shopping were quite the treat (and the concept of shopping in stores you used to "retroactively displace" from in order to furnish a dwelling dedicated to "practical socialism" is delightful in its contradictions). I might also add that, while logical and correct given its source, my answer to Eddie's riddle was "a secret". It's interesting to see how Batman was out of the picture due to his investigating an android impostor of Superman. It's also interesting the outing of Lex Luthor as the "man in the limo." As far as I recall, it's the first time he's actually been seen (and not simply referred to) in Cat-Tales. One wonders whether there's a connection between the android that occupies the attention of Lex's nemesis and the Dark Knight and Lex's presence in a Batman-free Gotham. I agree with Batfan7 in that, given his fall from grace, it would be easier and more logical for Lex to regain some measure of power through criminal means than business means. Therefore, I'm proposing that Lex wants to strike a deal with Catwoman to use the Vault as a means of making/facilitating deals and laundering money. Heck knows that there's already a fair amount of under-the-table shenanigans going on there. As one who knows more about this kinda stuff from TV, movies and the net than the actual comics, I must say I've always found the confident and arrogant Lex of the JLA cartoon series more interesting than the campy and pompous Lex portrayed in the Superman movies (no offense to Gene Hackman, but I could only stand so much of his portrayal of Luthor before switching the channel). Though he could strike a "pose" either way, the last paragraph suggests that Chris is leaning more towards the former. Whether that's a reflection of the comics or not is a question best answered by those more familiar with that aspect of the DCU. After all the talk about it on this thread (and in Cat-Tales), I am curious to see Lex's take on the "Tylenol capsule suit". Finally, the title of this chapter is quite intriguing. Cat and mousey implies someone playing with a new toy. Selina's the obvious choice of the cat, and she's certainly been playing with her toys (the "Catmobile", the Vault, and her new role as "Queen of the Underworld"), some more publicly than others. |

Interesting read. Seems like a simple exchange on Lex Luthor's part, but things are rarely so simple. Too bad [for him] that his information is out of
date.
Also, he seemed so surprised by the 'tylanol, Mardi Gras' thing, one wonders how he views his own downfall. |

I'm surprised Selina feels the need for a drink after this. I would think the chance to mess with Lex's head and plot the game with Bats would have
a "meow" factor beyond the initial "WTF" reaction.

..AKA, Fun with Teleporters and Bald Guys. But I digress.
I truly do like Lex better as the "scheming evil rich guy" than the flying day-glow suit-wearing maniac. Course, so does Selina as she astutely points out. But I think Lex's biggest failing is the lack of wit or any sense of humor what so ever. Many of Selina's barbs go completely over his head (insert bald joke here). Seems that when he's not talking about world conquest, how much he hates Superman, or touting his business achievments, he strikes me as a rather flat personality. But then if he did have a sense of humor, he wouldn't be evil. Well, that evil. More fun with Dick and Babs. I like these little glimpses of normalcy we see with these two. It's almost like something we'd hear about while talking with co-workers around the water cooler. "Yeah I threw my back out so I had to take a few days off. Drove the wife crazy while she was doing the computer thing." The fact that we're talking about Nightwing and Oracle is what makes it gold. Arthur makes a good point. Shortest distance between two points is a straight line. No accounting for PsychoBat paranoia of course. I like Doc Bart's quandary. Here you have a piece of scum with little to no redeeming value to society and he's going to get off in ten years scott free because of a loop hole in the system. Then he gets axed and, despite yourself, you feel glad about it. It's our human nature, for better or worse. I also do like the fact that it's Harley, of all people, that he confides in. She also does make an astute observation on Bart too. Now, whether or not this will come back to haunt Bart is something that remains to be seen. A good chapter, nice interaction between characters, with a main course of plot set-up. Well done.

I feel so bad for Doctor Bartholomew! He's my favorite Cat Tales original character. I'm happy that he's happy with Raven, but his career is still
a mess. He'll be so let down when Harley's "joke" comes out. The policy at Dr. Jerry's House of Fun to release everyone every two or
three stories makes perfect sense from a storytelling perspective, but for an institution that is supposed to be "helping" the patients and
protecting the general public, it's just fucked in the head. Does anybody REALLY thinks that Patient J is reformed and not kill anyone THIS TIME? AA
definition of insanity, anybody? Seriously, why hasn't Arkham just installed a revolving door yet?
It'd be nice if one of Leland's patients could make some progress so he could feel for a little while that, yes, he was helping somebody. It wouldn't even have to be a major character (and actually probably shouldn't be unless all interesting story possibilities with them had been exhausted), just give the poor guy some hope. (And don't worry so much about being professional, Leland. My therapist said "Let's get out of here" and took me out for hot chocolate once in the middle of a session. Granted, I wasn't in an asylum at the time, but still.) I guess my problem is that even as cynical I am, I still secretly want my favorite characters in ANY story to be happy - or as happy as is possible in real life, since the "And they lived happily ever after" thing is so fake. . Of course, if all the conflicts were resolved, there could be no more story. *sigh* Keep going Doctor Bart! I'm cheering you on! -JabberwockyPie Dr. Leland Bartholomew's #1 fangirl (Okay, #2 after Raven, but she's fictional.) |

Once again, Luthor has no idea what he's getting into. It's going to be interesting to see how the three of them (Batman, Superman, and Catwoman) take
Luther down without revealing that Catwoman has reformed. Of course, Catwoman is going to have to be careful to keep Batman from charging in, then Batman and
Catwoman together will have to keep Superman from charging in. I'm willing to bet at least ONE of the plans Luthor wants has the Wayne Enterprise logo on
them.

Bart is going to be pissed when he finds out that this is just one big joke. Of course it probably won't compare with Joker's angier when he finds
out that Harley proceeded with the joke without him. Harley of all people should know that leaving Joker out of the punchline is something you will live to
regrett, assuming Joker lets you live.

So there was a connection between Batman's sudden departure from Gotham and Lex's overtures! My excitement is partially tempered by my disappointment: Lex! You "settled" for a 727? Aren't there more expensive jets that you could charter? When Lex started thinking that his conversation with Catwoman was going according to his plan, I knew that wouldn't last long. Sure enough,
Catwoman's deviations threw him for a loop. It's pretty clear that he doesn't know who he's dealing with. Otherwise, he'd never think
that. The only one who successfully "planned" Catwoman's reactions is Batman, but that was due to the experience accumulated after countless
failed encounters (which led to lots of Zogger), and even he admits that that's an exercise in futility (planning some parts of an encounter with
Catwoman--maybe (if you're really lucky). Planning an entire encounter with Catwoman? Not going to happen. It was interesting to see a
"rational" conversation that clearly showed how observant and insightful Lex and Selina are, and I like his reaction to the Tylenol suit (one must
give him props for being "above" reading tabloids).

Poor Dr. Bart. He tries so hard, and yes Harley there is SOMETHING WRONG with your relationship with "Mista'h J."

Nodrog pace, thinking aloud. "Ok... three plans, three different businesses. One business, Wayne Enterprises. It's in Gotham City, the Wayne name will
be there somewhere. The next business... security plans, building plans... Grayson Enterprises, or whatever Dick calls his little company. Which meens Lex
wants to know how to enter a different building or wants to know how a certain building is built... If he just wanted it broken into, he could send Catwoman.
Either he has to be able to get into the building himself, or he wants to know how the building is built to prepare a nasty surprise. If Wayne R+D is involved,
the nasty surprise might be some sort of weapon system, initially meant to be non-lethal... say, some sort of sonic or tectonic generator which can shake the
building to pieces. But that's only two plans... three plans, three plans.... third plan.... a schedule... Lex wants to know when something is going to
happen!
Ok, but how to tie it to the Justice League... It should be something the League wants or something he can make it look like the league did.... Ooh, or something the league wants kept secure! Kryptonite, perhaps, or Phantom Zone technology... It can't be anything too obviously valuable or street sellable, or other rogues would be after it... Hmmm... wait... one night... the three plans have to have an obvious link between the three, else why would Luthor insist on a single night.... perhaps it's not three DIFFERENT plans Luthor wants... mayby he wants the only three copies of one plan... Something Wayne Enterprises is working on, with partners... hmmm, does Star Labs have a Gotham office?" |
