War of the Poses...as in posturing? Stopping and enjoying some time in the limelight? Hmm...
Well, the Dark Knight's grumpiness in Gotham and at the JLA (tough break, Plas) definitely smacks of PsychoBat. Mind you, there's more to this than a mere round of pomposity: an influx of criminals and a concentration of crime on a specific area of Gotham is never good news. Selina sure is enjoying her newfound fame. From her arrival in the "Catmobile" (*snort*. Love the moniker. Love the fan art (never thought purple would look so good!)) to entertaining VIP guests, she certainly is playing the part of the Queen. She may be right in that this is just a fad, with the short-lived longevity that goes with such phenomena. The problem is: how long will it last, how long will it last before someone get hurt and how severe the injuries would be. Mind you, it looks like Selina's willing to accept some responsibility for encouraging (implicitly or otherwise) an East End smackdown. Unfortunately, it appears that she won't make any concrete gestures while PsychoBat's still roaring around. So...Joker's making progress? Guess Dr. B's patience is finally paying dividends...or is it? So...will Bruce back down before Selina? Vice versa? Or will they continue to posture and hurl barbs before deciding to *gasp!* compromise? Is this breakthrough in Joker's therapy for real, or just a affected facade? And who is the mysterious well-dressed stranger in the last paragraph? Looking forward to seeing how the "war" progresses. Edit: My bad--Joker was just pulling Dr. B's leg. Upon re-reading the chapter, though, it will be interesting to see whether Harley's actually making some progress, or whether this is another battle of minds to parallel the one going on between Bruce and Selina.

Well, the name War of the Poses seems a take off of the War of the Roses, from European History. If I recall correctly, it was a civil war between two branches
of a single family. Which is what we seem to be having here.
The man with the expensive suit and Limo? Could this be Batman's doing, creating a 'crime'Lord to take over Gotham from Catwoman, and thus end
her 'fun'? It would certainly lead to an interesting civil war, now wouldn't it?

I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce is some how connected to that guy in the limo. Since Selina wasn't willing to give up her position, getting someone to
usurp it sounds like something he would do. It gets her out of the way before it causes harm to their relationship and puts someone he controls into the
position.

Whew! Sorry about the late review, ladies and gents. I was busy yesterday.
I will be most interested to see where this is going to go next. This is promising to be the next major hump in the Bat/Cat relationship. BenRG's Rating: 8/10 P.S.: Is this Dick's Catwoman smilie? >^^< ~*~*~*~

Ben! My man! Here I was searching the reviews for a nifty quote to pluck for all those places where I display the cover. And there you are: kitty's gotta
play with the toy, she does indeed. Your entire outline of the situation demonstrates a perfect understanding of Selina's makeup, flaws and all. Hence the
difference you noted in who could persuade her: Bruce's approach centered on the innocents on the East End. As we've seen, Selina doesn't CARE
about the people on the East End. She cares about Bruce - which was the crux of Nightwing's appeal.
Like a happy cat, she is indeed mischievous and focused on her game; not on anyone else. If you're going to draw someone to her attention, it better be someone she gives a shit about, otherwise it's just another tendril spooling off the ball of yarn. And yes, that's Nightwing's emoticon. On a technical note, the IE people who were experiencing runtime errors on certain pages in the website, I think the problem is fixed. |

Great story, want to know what Bruce's link to the hummer guy is. As for Plastic Man: I hope he keeps an emergancy egg of Silly Putty at the Watch Tower.
What I want to know: What's Al Ghul's reaction to all this? With his respect for the Great Detective, he has to assume the Detective setting his consort up as queen of Gotham's underworld is some elaborate plot of Batman. |

I'm not entirely convinced that our Limo Guy is in cahoots with Bruce. Could be a Mafia guy, could be something completely different. Let's not count
our chickens before they're hatched.

Nice chap, i love the Selina/Dick interaction. No matter how grown up he becomes or how respect he is as hero, he's always gonna be the voice cracking,
parking lot evidence gathering, pun spewing side kick when he's in front of Catwoman :D.
Ok here's my take on Limo guy. He's a new player. Sly basically knows EVERYONE in the Gotham underworld and ANYONE in the Gotham underworld knows you DON'T STALK SLY. I mean who hasn't heard the story about when Sly went to Florida and some of the highest tiered rogues (INCLUDING THE FREAKING JOKER) went there to get him back. If anything happened to Sly, the Gotham underworld would conduct such a man hunt that even Bats would be (slightly) impressed. Great stuff. Right now I'm saying it's J'onn on behest of the JLA. I mean Bruce is probably wound so tight even Diana would set aside "cohorting with former villains is not the path to righteousness speech #52" just to get him off their back . Oh the error of comedies that would insure :D. |

I think the Limo guy COULD be Bruce, but I wouldn't put money on it.
See, the last two stories have been about how there are two Rogues Batman never got. Penguin and Catwoman. Selina went through a few hissyfits at the idea of her moving into the Manor meant Batman had finally caged the cat, and now suddenly Penguin's empire is broken, and Catwoman takes the throne. Tell me that isn't ruffling a few… I almost said 'feathers'. So on the off chance it's Bruce in the limo, or someone at his order, then he's either taking this opportunity to see how the empire works now that the King's not running things personally, or Batman's taking this opportunity to try another way in. Selina can take an offer from Wayne Enterprises without outing Bruce as Batman. Oswald could never have accepted an illegal overture from Wayne without secrets getting compromised. Bruce has another way to fight the new Underworld master. |

Mmmm I don't think so. While I do think Limo-guy could be Bruce, he's almost certainly in disguise if he is. Proceeding on the assumption that
Limo-guy=Bruce, first off, he's going to Sly rather than Selina. While Sly has seen Bruce, Batman and Matches Malone, there's no indication he's
made any connection between any of them, whereas Selina would spot him if he was in clown makeup. He's doing this because he doesn't want Selina to
know what he's up to. Sly certainly knows Selina lives with Bruce, so any approach of Syl AS Bruce Wayne would make its way back to Catwoman.

Well, the name War of the Poses seems a take off of the War of the Roses, from European History. If I recall correctly, it was a civil war between two branches of a single family. Which is what we seem to be having here. You are more or less right, Letomo. The Wars of the Roses were a series of wars in England between feuding factions, the Yorkists and the Lancastrians, both of whom claimed the legitimate heir to the English throne. Ultimately, it came down to a battle between King Richard III, a Yorkist, and Henry Tudor, a Lancastrian. Their armies fought, with Henry triumphing, becoming King Henry VII, father of the more famous King Henry VIII (he of the 6 wives). Richard was killed in battle, giving rise to (I think) Shakespeare's immortal line, "My horse, my horse, my kingdom for a horse" (I could be very wrong about that), as well as the children's saying, Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain, a way of remembering the order of the colours of the rainbow (take the first letters to see it). The War of the Roses was so called (many years afterward) because the symbol of each faction was a rose - Red for Lancaster, and White for Yorkshire. When Henry VII became King, he took as his bride a woman from the house of York, uniting the factions and (more or less) ending their feud. His personal symbol was changed to show a rose with both white and red petals, symbolising the union.[/Sidenote] Chris has shown before she has a very good understanding of European history (I was very impressed by the Wayne family tree), so any or all of those themes might well come out in the story. ;) |

The East Side | #15 | ||
BenRG wrote: Long-time reader, and tried to post before, but never could make the system work for me! I do want to add
on to Ben's comments here - as someone who works with the kind of communities that the East Side seems to be, I wonder at Selina's blind spot to those
who live in that type of area - not by choice, but by economic necessity. These are the people who have the most to lose - what little they have - and setting
the East Side up as a "playground" for the thugs doesn't seem like the woman the Post ignores. She reads the paper - surely she's seen how
the crime spree there has affected that community. She cares about the wounded cat - does she really think less of a wounded child?

Chapter 2 - The Cat and Mousey Thing | #17 | ||
|
This is a very interesting chapter. It has been a long time since Selina and Eddie spent any time together. Eddie is highly intelligent and is as close to
sane that most Rogue Alphas can hope to get, so a conversation with him is always very revealing. Besides, as a habitual setter and solver of puzzles, Eddie
is always useful to we, the readers, in helping to disentange the various issues in the main characters' psyches.
Of course, Eddie is also pretty much the epitome of the 'weasel' personality type. Watching him freak out when he thought Bruce was coming to beat on him for a disrespectful remark made me snort tea onto my monitor. *wipes monitor clean... ish* The subplot with the android Superman was interesting. The idea of having the story written out in a series of Bat Logs was a new idea for Cat Tales and gave you the odd reassurance of reading an adventure whilst knowing that Bruce is okay as he came back to record the logs. Quoth the Green Question Mark GuyAmen, Eduardo, amen. I just want to say how I love your portrayal of Dick Greyson/Nightwing. A lot of people either make him a joker, a loser or (like a certain F. Miller) a psycopathic homicidal loser. You make him effective, human, three-dimentional and friendly. I doubt that Selina sees him as a son the way that Bruce does. It is more likely that he is her slightly crazy and always annoying little brother who she still loves to bits, even when he exasperates her. Overall, this is a bridging chapter. We have moved away from the set up and introduction and we are seeing the pieces moving into their position so that the overall story (or, in this case, stories) that will be in this edition of Cat Tales are defined for us. This looks like an intreguing and mysterious story and I look forward to seeing more. BenRG's Rating: 7.5/10 ~*~*~*~

I think that
I remember a really great Batman Adventures comic where Eddie made a bunch of money selling stuff he'd designed, so he went straight but he was BORED, so he kept sending riddles to Batman that implied someone was in danger, but he really just wanted to play Chess with him. |
