Warning: this is the first time I'vew ever really reviewed a fanfic, and I'm doing it while reading the chapter. Sorry if I end up repeating points made by BenRG, I just didn't want to read his review before reading the actual story. And really don't read this if you haven't read the chapter. I have no experience hiding discussions of plot points and will definately put too many spoilers in without sufficient protection.

Firstly, I love that wonderful insight into Bruce and Selina's relationship so early in.



It's really nice to be reminded of the closeness of the two characters, and to see how they are constantly being reminded and surprised by it as well. This is why so many people, inside and outside the comic book world, KNOW that Catwoman and Batman are perfect together, even if the PTB at DC don't get it.

Moving on quickly,



That one line just sent shivers of excitement through me, and this is the real reason I needed to review straight away. This just gives me such a buzz and I just know I'm going to be hooked for the rest of the story. If only for that promise of the Cat and Bat confrontation. And it also opens up the question of if Bruce and Selina are so close, what has happened to mean that there has to be a Cat/Bat confrontation, and what kind of confrontation will it be. Hmmm. We'll just have to wait and see...

Hmmm... It sounds to me that Batgirl and Robin might just have given Oswald that little bit of Shock Therapy he needed to get out of his obsession with cleanliness. Really through, he's sounding a lot more focused and less worried about scrubbing the bottom of all the bird cages.

BUT although he is right that anyone would be upset in his situation, it seemed to me that he might be starting to kwak more than usual. Seriously, he seems to want to kwak rather use words to express himself. Could it be that he was still slightly more emotionally unstable and sensitive than usual, a little bit more than he wants to admit to himself?

He's pretty much taken up the role of any ordinary civilian diagnosed with a psychological disorder. Immediate dismissal and denial. I love the fact that he immediately uses Hugo and Crane to try and prove his sanity, and the argument just doesn't seem to work. These slightly disrupted powers of perception fit with the circumstances which would have shook up the normally dignified Penguin.

Will his stay in Arkham help him get over his grief, or will it just put him in contact with more dangerous obsessions and fears?



I'm now waiting in eager anticipation for developments in Arkham.

That repetion of the earlier argument as we return to the plane brought us very smoothly back to Selina's point of view.

Bruce seems to be very ontop of Oswald's viewpoint, and is aware that there could be psychological problems resulting from the loss of the Iceburg, all of which means he will be prepared for some fallout. His explaination could give us some real glimpses of what is happening to Oswald, but it is possible that his viewpoint is tainted by the fact that he has to deal with so many psychotic themed criminals. His analysis is very biased towards finding possibilities for imbalance and sudden 'episodes'.

How purrfectly catlike. Selina really didn't want to think about Penguin, she wanted to think about her and Bruce. And more specifically, she wanted to reminise about the 'good ole days' when she would tease and torment Batman with her naughty grin. Ah, but nostalgia is a dangerous and dishonest beast. Don't forget Selina, those 'good ole days' were full of frustration and pain and disappointment. No one really wants to go back, it never was quite like we remember.



I love seeing all the different support characters Chris comes up with and fills out. Here we get a fascinating view into the life and motivation of an altogether different type of Arkham employee from the ones we normally see.



Great touch, ordinary life slipping into Arkham. Seeing that rogues can experience the same problems as everyone else is one of the things I love about Chris's writing and long may it continue.

Ha Ha, that's the Oswald we know and ...well, if not exactly love, feel very affectionate for when not planning how to kill our favourite crime fighters. Good to see he's now thinking clearly enough to recognise the importance of his employees. Recognition is a highly sought after commodity. If only all employers could see this.

Saul needs to learn some business smarts and tactics. It's easy enough to convince criminal psychotics on heavy medication and with little chance of getting out or outside help to pay the price you want, but with a seasoned businessman and intelligent crime boss it's a whole different ball game. This is going to be a fun interaction.

Do I get the feeling that this Vultureman might be sticking around for a while...listening to the way Bruce is talking definately. For all his talk about Oswald being obsessive, he is going just a little off the deep end himself here. Yes, it is a good goal and definately the best opportunity he's ever gotten, but if he's being a little blind to some of the assumptions he's making and a little too, what's the word, intense about it for everybody elses comfort.

I remember turbulance. Nice to see her thoughts in real time, not just a flashback to what happened before but actual memories.

Nice comment on the dinner there. Good to see how Selina is aware of the mindset of both men, and is very willing to do things to please them both when it suits her.

That was a well deserved comeback about the fence. I don't blame Selina for being insulted. The Penguin may be the head of a criminal empire, but he is hardly the most sutble or dignified fence for a mistress thief to have. Batman shouldn't have chickened out and left Bruce to deal with her. He know that comment was below him and most certainly below her.

Has Bruce stopped filtering what he is saying? It's beginning to sound like he is not thinking much if at all before asking Selina to help him.

Manipulative Batman is back. Nothing like a bit of emotional blackmail to get your girlfriend on your side.



It's like he's gotten too used to Selina helping him in the crimefighting and thinks he can just call her in any time that he wants. This is definately not going to be one of those great, Cat and Bat team ups to put away another Big Bad. This is going to be Bruce and Selina at each others throats throughout. And it's all going to be Bruce's fault.

Batman owes Catwoman. Big time.

On the plus side, at least we now know why and what type of favour Bruce wanted Selina to do.

A bunch of obsessive, psychotic, themed criminals being completely selfish and unresponsive and unfeeling of others pain. Sounds about right.
Mind you, Oswald is certainly equal to all the others in the selfish and greedy stakes.

Wow. It's so nice to see that little nod of the head that goes on between upper level rogues. This is why we find these characters interesting, the recognition between them all. This is why people like Oswald, Selina, Eddie and Harvey need to have somewhere to meet up and hang out in ordinary company without fear of being attacked with suspision and fear.

Apparently having someone like Saul to do business with is doing Oswald good, keeping him calm. And whatever medication they have him on as well.

That was a brilliant piece of confusion there Chris. And probably the one thing Bruce never saw coming. I can't wait to see his reaction to that news.

And the chapter is nicely rounded off with a return to the first situation, everything introduced but no problems really solved. And we've got all the drama to come, just running up for when everyone finds out. I can't wait.
