Art & intrigue | #46 | ||

Hey gang, here's one for the art lovers or intrigue
buffs. I've known about this artist for some time since
he did an installation at my old museum. His thing is
codes, and probably his most famous piece is
Kryptos at CIA Headquarters.
![]() Evidently Dan Brown's DaVinci code has sparked interest in it (It's not referenced in the book, but pictured on the jacket, and the publisher has leaked that the cover art hints at the NEXT book). |

I've just discovered that there isn't a temporary
small victories thread... oh my things have not been
going as well as they should be...
But anyhoo! I had been worrying that I wouldn't have enough money to go on a certain trip with a friend and it turns out that Uncle Sam just sent me a refund check (a new one because apparently the first one wasn't enough) and now I *can* go on the trip. So off to Yosemite I am going in the near future! YAY! For a change, the tax man is being NICE! *does cartwheels* DRINKS ON ME!! _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'm hoping today will behave, really. |

How about a nice Bellini, stephenmat. I feel your
pain, honest. It was a great show, and I think in a way,
Sorkin wrote its epitaph Season One:
"We might lose the White House. But we're going to raise the level of debate in this country. Let that be our legacy." They can make it a laughable soap opera but they can't get that genie back in the bottle. |

Twoface saunters over, flicking his coin.
A Bellini? My my my, that's an awfully girly suggestion from our (admittedly) rather girly Bartender. *He turns, laughing condescendingly. Harv can be seen making desperate apologetic glances at Catwoman. Twoface turns to face her again* Stephen, although this lovely lady might advocate such a decidedly estrogenetic drink... remember where you heard that word folks, we on the other hand offer you a bucket full of ice and budweiser. *Twoface leaps acrobatically through the air, landing back in his usual seat. From underneath the table, he draws a large flag on a long wooden pole. The flag is royal blue in colour, with white writing spelling out the immortal words... Manly Topics Twoface waves the flag vigorously with a defiant glance toward the female patrons of the bar.* We are proud to present to you the third... *he grumbles, but then brightens* SECOND RESURRECTION of Manly Topics! GENTLEMEN... Vive la Resistance! *Drawing a small flute from his jacket pocket, Twoface begins playing the theme from 'The Great Escape' before marching in a parade like fashion over to the area of the Bar designated as Men Only in days past. He plops down on the designer leather sofa, before deliberately, theatrically, placing his feet on the coffee table. From this position, he sniffs condescendingly, before placing a sign on the back of the sofa.* "The He-Man Women Lovers-But-Would-Rather-Enjoy-The-Social-Company-Of-Fellow-Men-Now-And-Again Club. Or Manly Topics for short." *Rob picks nervously at his collar* Don't look at me folks... heh... This won't end well On a completely unrelated note, if anyone needs me I'll be somewhere over there... *Rob slinks off to join his creation, trying not to catch Catty's eye* There is a wonderful sentence in
Augustine... "Do not despair: one of the thieves
was saved. Do not presume: one of the thieves was
damned." - Samuel Beckett.

AH HA!! I finally found them! I knew I had these
around somewhere! Sometimes it pays off to clean out the
bookcase.
A couple of pictures my sister took of our beautiful 13 year old male tabby, PeeWee. He's lovingly known in our family as the "Great Chihuahua Hunter". ![]() ![]() "I am beset on all sides by idiots!

Thanks a lot, Doctor. Now it'll take half an hour
before she can tear herself away from the pictures and
pour me a Bellini, which accidentally is not a girly
drink.
*glowers at Twoface* Primo, it was first introduced in Harry's Bar (Venice), the regular haunt of such men as Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway (for the sake of my argument, I won't mention Noël Coward). Secundo, Italians are not known for their girly nature otherwise there wouldn't be a song from the musical "Nine" called "Be Italian" in which their sexual prowess is praised. Tertio, bite me! In unity lies
strength.
